Injured WWE Superstar Braun Strowman, who returned to WWE TLC last night and won his TLC Match against Baron Corbin, recently interviewed actors Will Ferrell & John C. Reilly to promote The Holmes & Watson Movie, which hits theaters on Christmas Day. There is no word yet on when Braun’s interview with Ferrell & Reilly will air but Strowman also has a quick role in the comedy, his big screen debut.

WWE announced during RAW that injured Superstar Kevin Owens will return soon from surgeries he had on both knees.
It seems like a long time since Kevin Owens was on WWE television. KO teamed with Elias against Bobby Lashley and John Cena at the Super Show-Down event in Australia back on October 6. The following Monday Night RAW, Owens would lose to Lashley in a singles match. Bobby would attack KO after the match, solidifying Lashley’s heel turn and writing Owens off of television and out of any storylines.

WWE is hyping that Brock Lesnar’s next challenger will be decided on tonight’s episode of Raw.
A video that WWE put out this afternoon announced that Braun Strowman vs. Kane on Raw tonight is now a number one contender’s match, with the winner set to challenge Lesnar for the Universal Championship at next month’s Royal Rumble pay-per-view. Strowman and Kane have been feuding since TLC in October and have regularly faced each other at house shows since then.
The finish to Strowman vs. Kane at the house shows has been Kane getting disqualified minutes into the match, then Strowman fighting back and putting him through a table with a powerslam. Strowman previously lost to Lesnar in a Universal title match at No Mercy in September.
Dave Meltzer reported last month that WWE had changed their plans after Lesnar vs. Finn Balor was originally scheduled for the Royal Rumble, which will take place at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on January 28th.
Lesnar has been advertised locally for next Monday’s Raw in Providence, Rhode Island, though WWE has yet to officially announce that he’ll be on the show.
After announcing last week that Roman Reigns would be facing Cesaro on Raw tonight, WWE has now also confirmed that Reigns’ Intercontinental Championship will be on the line in the match.

IWGP Heavyweight Champion Kenny Omega was recently interviewed by Rolling Stone Japan about his in-ring style, who he looks to in NJPW to bring the company to a higher level and what wrestlers need to be at the top. Below are the highlights from the interview as transcribed by NJPW Announcer Chris Charlton:
On Hiroshi Tanahashi critiquing Omega’s in-ring style: “I understand that Tanahashi must feel disappointed that a wrestler like me is at the top of the heap. But to say I have no grace? I’d say that applies to him, not me. To suggest that mine is a style that isn’t New Japan-like is a big problem. It’s saying Tanahashi’s style, the style that presents himself as ‘The Ace,’ is the only style that’s correct. I absolutely understand and respect that Tanahashi did so much to pull NJPW out of the dark ages, but from there, recently, the ones that have brought us to this awesome level have been Kazuchika Okada, Tetsuya Naito, and of course, the best bout machine, Kenny Omega.”
On who impresses him in NJPW as the company looks to expand towards a more global audience: “I don’t want this to just be about wrestling fans, but anyone. That they can see me and fall in love with wrestling in an instant. Hardcore, comedy, strong style, none of those bulls— labels. Just knowing that if I’m in the ring, I’m doing everything to provide the best bout. Guys who only know and respect the NJPW strong style don’t have their focus on a global audience and can’t hope to attain it. I respect Okada, Naito, and IBUSHI the most in New Japan. They don’t fit in easy boxes and they do care about worldwide fans. Like Naito, he’s an orthodox strong style guy, but threw that out in favor of a lucha influence and created something new. Okada, too. And IBUSHI, there’s only one IBUSHI. It’s important to have that individuality in order to keep improving the quality of NJPW, and keep amazing fans. I absolutely feel my style is the best, but I would never look down at another wrestler’s style like Tanahashi does.”
On elements that wrestlers need to be at the top: “The three most important things for a top wrestler? First, passion. There are too many matches that get over in the moment, but a few days later, nobody remembers. Well, that’s not just in New Japan. That’s caused by a lack of passion. Then, intellect. IQ, maybe. For high level offense, you need to be smart, read things three moves ahead. I like to say I’m playing chess while others play checkers. There’s something to checkers, it’s a fine game, but someone playing that is not on the level of someone that can play chess. Then, physical ability. A lot of people read into that wrong, and try and become bodybuilders, but in wrestling today, you need to have a body that can give and take some violent punishment. You have to be an Olympic level athlete. You can impress some people with a gigantic body, but you can’t move people with a top class match like that.”

All eyes are on the members of The Elite right now as the popular group is currently in the process of taking the next big step in their careers. While the group’s plans for 2019 have not been officially announced as of yet, what is known is that Cody Rhodes, The Young Bucks, and Hangman Page just turned down huge offers to work for WWE, and The Elite also said goodbye to Ring of Honor earlier this month. However, Ring of Honor and New Japan Pro Wrestling will be hosting a huge joint show in the world famous Madison Square Garden arena during the weekend of WrestleMania 35 in New York City. One would think that The Elite would be part of such a historic show, but according to The Young Bucks, they will not be attending the show.
When a fan asked the brothers on Twitter if they will still be able to compete on the show through NJPW, Matt Jackson of The Bucks said that he and his sibling won’t be wrestling on the G1 Supercard event in MSG this April. Given The Elite’s groundbreaking involvement in putting together the All In event earlier this year, it almost seemed like a forgone conclusion that they would be coming to MSG for the G1 Supercard just a few months ago. However, all signs now point to the group launching their own wrestling promotion called All Elite Wrestling. The official announcement of AEW’s launch is expected to arrive in early 2019. Cody Rhodes and The Young Bucks have encouraged fans to keep watching their Being the Elite YouTube series for the latest updates and clues on their next journey.
We will not be there, but I encourage everyone to still go. It’s a historic night for wrestling. https://t.co/kPVEjtTqIa

Earlier this year, The Elite announced that they had officially left the Bullet Club. New Japan Pro Wrestling’s Tama Tonga is still part of the faction though, and he has managed to get the wrestling world buzzing with a recent tweet that he posted online. Tonga just teased that WWE Superstars Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows could be rejoining the team at some point in 2019. Anderson & Gallows were both in the Bullet Club before they signed with WWE in 2016. Both men are still reportedly under WWE deals for several more months, but could the duo eventually come back to NJPW next year? Of course, “The Good Brothers” could simply re-sign with WWE, or maybe even join the new All Elite Wrestling promotion in 2019 as well.

With Tribute to the Troops airing on the USA Network as part of WWE Week, WWE and Impact Wrestling went head-to-head in the ratings this past Thursday night.

And the results weren’t good for Impact. This week’s show averaged 161,000 viewers, the lowest number for a new episode of Impact since debuting on Pop TV. It was even lower than the audience for the Thanksgiving edition of Impact this year, which did 169,000 viewers. Earlier this month, Impact did 226,000 viewers for the December 7th episode.
Impact changed nights from Tuesdays to Thursdays in the summer of 2016 to avoid going against SmackDown after WWE had announced its move to Tuesdays.
Tribute to the Troops averaged 1,401,000 viewers. That number is up from 2016 but lower than what it had done prior to last year.
For a comparison, here are the viewership numbers that WWE posted on the USA Network this week:
Raw — 2.68 million
SmackDown — 2.481 million
NXT — 841,000
Tribute to the Troops — 1.401 million

After the first two matches took place on SmackDown this week, WWE has revealed the bracket for the United States Championship tournament.
Zack Ryder vs. Mojo Rawley and Xavier Woods vs. Aiden English are the two remaining matches in the first round. The winner of Ryder vs. Rawley will go on to face Bobby Roode, with the winner of Woods vs. English advancing to face Jinder Mahal.
WWE announced the tournament on Tuesday’s SmackDown after the angle where Dolph Ziggler left the US Championship in the ring and walked out the week prior, with Daniel Bryan noting that Ziggler had seemingly willingly relinquished the title. Roode defeated Baron Corbin and Mahal beat Tye Dillinger to advance to the second round.
The bracket indicates that the finals will take place at the Royal Rumble on January 28th.
The tournament should continue on SmackDown next Tuesday. The Usos defending their Tag Team titles against Chad Gable & Shelton Benjamin is set for the episode as well, along with Breezango vs. The Bludgeon Brothers. WWE will also follow up on Kevin Owens’ non-title win over AJ Styles from this week’s show and the storyline of ongoing tension between Shane McMahon and Daniel Bryan.
