Huge Ronda Rousey Update, Orginal TLC Replacement, New SD Team

There has been a lot of buzz all year long concerning Ronda Rousey’s next WWE appearance. The UFC fighter has been rumored to partake in a match for WWE for some time now. Multiple rumors of Rousey receiving wrestling training recently have surfaced, and she was previously rumored to face Charlotte Flair at Wrestlemania. The Wrestling Observer Newsletter now reports that Charlotte, Becky Lynch, Sasha Banks, and Bayley will team up to face Rousey, Marina Shafir, Shayna Baszler, and Jessamyn Duke at Wrestlemania 34, not Survivor Series next month as originally rumored. The match was supposedly pushed back due to the Raw vs. Smackdown theme for Survivor Series this year, as well as for the women involved to receive further wrestling training.
When Bray Wyatt went down with an illness and was unable to face Finn Balor at TLC, fans were surprised to see Smackdown’s AJ Styles named as his replacement. AJ and Balor went on to have an enjoyable match at the event despite the last minute changes made to it. However, it appears that WWE originally had someone else in mind to replace Wyatt. Dave Meltzer reported in a recent Wrestling Observer Newsletter that AJ Styles was not contacted to replace Wyatt at first, but rather Chris Jericho first received the offer to face Balor at the pay-per-view. Meltzer noted that Jericho was busy touring with his band Fozzy and was unable to appear at the show.
Aiden English and Rusev are two Smackdown talents who have both struggled ever since the start of the brand split in WWE. The two have been making a few appearances on television together recently, and fans have remarked that both men are rather entertaining together. The company apparently seems to agree with the fans, because a new report from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter claims that Rusev and Aiden English will be appearing as a full time tag team on Smackdown from now on. The team has only competed in one match thus far, losing to Shinsuke Nakamura and Randy Orton, but they have will have a chance to shine in the tag team division soon enough.

Kurt Angle’s Rumored WrestleMania 34 Opponent

Last Monday night on Raw, Stephanie McMahon returned in the opening segment and addressed The WWE Universe as well as The entire Raw Locker Room and Raw General Manager Kurt Angle. Stephanie McMahon confronted and threatened Kurt Angle’s job if their team loses at Survivor Series. This could set up a storyline that would eventually lead to an Angle vs. Triple H match at next year’s WrestleMania 34. Only time will tell if this is the direction WWE is indeed taking on its road to next year’s WrestleMania 34.

Potential WWE SmackDown Women’s Title Change Next Week?

WWE has announced the first match for next week’s episode of SmackDown on the USA Network. It was revealed at Tuesday’s TV taping that Natalya would defend the SmackDown Women’s Title against Charlotte Flair.
WWE holds next week’s show in Charlotte, North Carolina, at the Spectrum Center. As of this writing, no other matches for SmackDown has been announced. With the show being in Charlotte’s backyard, there’s always a chance the title could change hands. However, WWE also has had hometown heroes suffer big losses in their hometowns, so the WWE Universe will have to tune in to find out whether a new women’s champion will be crowned.

Ethan Page Debuts in Impact, John Cena Statue, Adam Rose Return?

It almost seems as though Impact Wrestling has been announcing talent departures from the company every single day lately. Ever since they’ve begun taping shows in Canada this week, Impact has been trying to add some new talent to the roster, but it seems that the company has just signed a major indy wrestler to their roster. Fans have revealed that “All Ego” Ethan Page made his Impact Wrestling debut during the television tapings in Ottawa. Page debuted under the ring name Chandler Park and he was managed by Joseph Park. Page announced at the end of September that he had left EVOLVE Wrestling to take the next step in his career.

John Cena is one of the most beloved and popular wrestlers from this era. He has won numerous championships and has achieved several impressive accolades during his career, and he isn’t even finished wrestling just yet. He has been trying to break into Hollywood as a mainstream actor as of late, but Cena’s home city of West Newbury, Massachusetts plans to honor him with a statue. Local residents had been petitioning for Cena to receive a statue. This week though, pamphlets and bronze John Cena action figures are being distributed throughout the city with the announcement that Cena will be immortalized with a statue. Reddit user The_Magic has provided an image of the pamphlet and figure:

Fans may remember the Adam Rose character that was on WWE television a few years ago, or perhaps they remember Rose’s earlier Leo Kruger character from NXT. Rose was released in May of 2016, during which he was suspended indefinitely for being arrested for domestic violence as well as for violating WWE’s Wellness Policy for a second time. Rose recently posted an image of himself in his old Social Outcasts t-shirt from his time teaming up with Heath Slater, Bo Dallas, and Curtis Axel. He also teased that he has big news to share while posting hashtags for #WWE, #ADAMROSE, and several other hashtags. Could Rose be returning soon? Tomoaki Honma Training for Return

New Japan Pro Wrestling’s Tomoaki Honma is back in the gym and taking bumps again, and is training for a return to the ring, as amazing as that is. Back in March, the “master” of the Kokeshi headbutt was put in the hospital after suffering a severe cervical vertebrae injury that had him relearning how to walk and do things that many of us take for granted.
The frequent partner of “The Unchained Gorilla” Togi Makabe, with the pair winning the World Tag League tournament last year and winning the IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Titles, Honma was injured last March during a 6 man match against the Bullet Club. He was in the ring with Jado when the accident happened when Honma took a draping DDT from Jado and couldn’t get up or move. It was determined he took damage to one of the vertebrae in his neck and had been in recovery ever since just to be able to walk around.
While The Wrestling Observer does not say where he is training again, one would think he will have to spend some time in the NJPW Dojo before he is able to make a full-time return. As a fan of his work as a lovable goofball who seems to miss his finishing move more than he hits it, I wish him all the best in his recovery and hope to see him back in the ring someday throwing around that headbutt like no one’s business.

Backstage News on the Men’s 5-on-5 Elimination Match

This Sunday’s Men’s 5-on-5 Elimination Match is quite possibly the biggest 5-on-5 Elimination Match that WWE has created to date with 10 of the best and biggest superstars in WWE history. It is expected that superstars such as Triple H, Braun Strowman, and John Cena are three guys that will be “protected” in the booking that is why they continue to look strong. Kurt Angle is also someone who is likely to fit into that group.

Russian billionaire ‘loses half his fortune’ after ‘divorcing Vladimir Putin’s daughter’

When 32-year businessman Kirill Shamalov wed Vladimir Putin’s daughter in 2013, he suddenly found his fortunes on the rise – to the tune of $2 billion in shares and a lucrative post at a petrochemical giant.

But amid rumors of his separation from Katerina Tikhonova, Mr Shamalov appears to have been cast out of favour, demoted from his position as deputy chief executive at Sibur and his wealth halved.

News of the couple’s separation was reported by Bloomberg Thursday, citing four unidentified sources familiar with the situation.

Vedomosti, a respected Russian business newspaper, later published a screenshot of a Facebook post showing Mr Shamalov with a new girlfriend, Zhanna Volkova, a Moscow-born…

Catalonia postpones vote for new president as speaker blasts Spain for trying to ‘dictate terms’

The speaker of the Catalan parliament has postponed the inauguration of Carles Puigdemont until he can be invested “with guarantees”, amid an intensifying legal battle over the return of the pro-independence leader.

Announcing the move just hours before the scheduled investiture, Roger Torrent insisted he would not succumb to Spanish authorities’ efforts to prevent Mr Puigdemont taking office, saying he would “go until the end” to ensure the parliament’s choice was respected.

The postponement follows Saturday’s ruling from Spain’s Constitutional Court that Mr Puigdemont could not be invested remotely from Belgium, but must seek judicial permission to attend the Catalan parliament in person.

As Mr Puigdemont faces a warrant for his arrest on sedition and rebellion charges, that would entail delivering himself to Spanish justice and his likely imprisonment.

Mr Puigdemont’s party, Junts Per Catalunya, filed an appeal against the ruling, but it was rejected by the Constitutional Court.

Blasting the ruling as a “judicial botch”, Mr Torrent insisted that “neither a minister nor a court 600 kilometres away will decide who is the president of the (Catalan) government”.

The postponement was hailed by the government in Madrid as a show of “respect for legality” in the wake of the Constitutional Court ruling.

Among pro-independence parties, the response was mixed. Sergi Sabrià, spokesman for the Esquerra Republicana (ERC), coalition partner to Mr Puigdemont’s party, welcomed the postponement as “a good decision to defend the votes of the people”.

But Mr Puigdemont’s party appeared blindsided by the decision, while the hardline pro-independence party the CUP insisted the inauguration should go ahead. "Democracy cannot be postponed,” Carles Riera, the CUP’s parliamentary leader, wrote on Twitter.

The Constitutional Court ruling has drawn controversy due to its unprecedented nature. The Spanish government had defied legal advice to appeal against the proposal of Mr Puigdemont as president, an appeal which, if accepted, would have triggered the suspension of the inauguration.

The Court refused to hear that appeal but instead imposed the preconditions on the inauguration, a move it acknowledged was “without any precedent” but said was merited due to the “exceptional urgency” of the situation.

A report on Monday in the Spanish daily El Pais that Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy and ministers had personally telephoned judges to warn them of the gravity of the situation should Mr Puigdemont be inaugurated has also stirred accusations of political interference.

Enric Millo, the Spanish government’s representative in Catalonia, today rejected claims of interference, describing them as "false and perverse".
