Thomas Partey is reportedly set to sign a new contract with Atletico Madrid in a huge blow for Arsenal.
Partey is reportedly Mikel Arteta’s top summer transfer target as he looks to bolster his midfield, and it was thought he might be available in a cut price deal.
But according to GhanaSoccerNet, Partey will instead sign a new £135,000-per-week contract at the Wanda Metropolitano – which will see him double his wages.
FEATURE: Premier League run-in: Possibilities and predictions
The 27-year-old has a release clause in his current Atletico contract that runs out in 2023, believed to be between £42million and £45m.
But if he puts pen to paper on this lucrative new deal, Partey’s release clause would reportedly increase to a mammouth £87.2m.
The news will come as another bitter pill for Arteta and Arsenal to swallow following a hugely turbulent season – that is looking likely to end without European football.
Arsenal were desperate to raise cash to fund a move for Partey, and viewed him as the man to lead the side’s midfield next season.

LAS VEGAS, Nev.–North Dakota State University 184-pounder Hayden Zillmer placed seventh and 149 Clay Ream finished eighth during the final day of action Saturday, Dec. 5, at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational held in the Cashman Center. Following Zillmer’s match, NDSU was 22nd in the team standings with 37.5 points.
North Dakota State (0-2) is scheduled to square off with South Dakota State (1-5) for the Border Bell at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 13, in Brookings. The dual will be broadcast on Midco Sports Network. SDSU will wrestle three duals Sunday.
Zillmer, a senior from Crosby, Minn., worked a 12-1 major decision against Ryan Christensen of Wisconsin in the seventh place match. He opened with an 18-2 tech fall over Iowa State’s Dane Pestano, but his third-period rally fell short in an 11-9 loss to 14th-ranked Matt Miller of Navy. Zillmer, who entered the weekend ranked 4th nationally, finished with a 4-2 record at the CKLV and stands 14-2 overall.
Ream, a sophomore from Wentzville, Mo., started the day with a 9-6 decision over Joey Galasso of Cornell. He lost back-to-back major decisions to 17th-ranked Matt Krauser of Arizona State, 14-3, and Geo Martinez of Boise State, 20-8. Ream went 4-3 at the CKLV and is now 9-5.
Zillmer and Ream were two of five Bison wrestlers to advance to Saturday. NDSU 125 Josh Rodriguez (4-2 CKLV, 13-4 overall) lost 6-5 to Missouri’s 14th-ranked Barlow McGhee; 141 Mitch Bengtson (3-2 CKLV, 8-4) dropped an 11-6 decision to Missouri’s Matt Manley, and 285 Ben Tynan (3-2 CKLV, 12-4) fell 5-4 to Harvard’s Nick Gajdzik.
Vruno Propels Mavericks to Victory After Slow Start
BISMARCK, N.D. — After starting the dual down 7-0, the Minnesota State wrestling team (1-0, 1-0 NSIC) won seven straight matches to defeat the University of Mary by a final score of 33-10 to pick up its first conference victory of the season.
Alphonso Vruno (Sr., 141 lbs., 7-3) got the ball rolling for the Mavericks, picking up a huge win against the sixth ranked wrestler at 141 pounds in Division II, Rudy Guillen, by major decision, 13-4. The Mavericks at that point trailed 7-4 before Dylan Herman (So., 149 lbs., 6-6) picked up a quick pin against Reed Cronin in 1:10 to give Minnesota State a 10-7 lead that it would not surrender for the rest of the night.
From there, it was smooth sailing as the Mavericks won by tech fall in four of the next five matches. Matt Mincey (R-Sr., 157 lbs., 5-0), Adam Cooling (Jr., 174 lbs., 13-2), Scott VanDeLoo (Sr., 184 lbs., 8-0) and Darick Vancura (Jr., 197 lbs., 3-6) all won by tech fall, earning 20 team points. Corey Abernathy (So., 165 lbs., 1-0) also won his first match of the year by a 5-0 decision over Paul Michaelson.
Team-wise, the Mavericks finished 7-3 in their matches on the night.
MSU will now head up to Minot, N.D., where it will square off against the Minot State Beavers tomorrow night. The dual is scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m.

WWE on Friday posted video of their cameras following around an emotional SmackDown Women’s Champ Becky Lynch the day after she led a SmackDown invasion of RAW as she learns that her concussion and broken face will force her to miss her Survivor Series match against Ronda Rousey.
Here’s the video of Becky in St. Louis on Tuesday right before she chooses Charlotte Flair to replace her on SmackDown Live that night:
As reported by AllWrestling.com earlier this week, Nia Jax reportedly is receiving heat both backstage and from fans over injuring SmackDown Women’s Champ Becky Lynch with a wayward punch that concussed and broke the nose of the Lasskicker during her invasion on RAW.
Though it’s possibly a work, Jax didn’t do herself any favors with an initial tweet that seemed to be unconcerned about Lynch, criticizing people for not asking about her hand. Days later, Jax made another tweet that enraged Lynch fans. Jax dubbed herself the “Facebreaker” in a tweet that promoted the RAW Women’s Survivor Series team’s match against SmackDown in which Jax will compete.
As you can imagine with how over The Man is these days, this created an avalanche of angry tweets from Becky Lynch fans who were looking forward to see her facing RAW Women’s Champ Ronda Rousey. Lynch had to bow out of the match because she wasn’t medically cleared and Charlotte Flair will now face Rousey.
Here is that thread with some responses from the angered fans:

I sure hope using #facebreaker is a work. The fans were looking forward to @BeckyLynchWWE vs @RondaRousey and a misguided punch robbed us of that. That gave you all the heat you need to be a monster heel. Using #facebreaker is just piling on unnecessarily.

Competing in its second, nationally elite tournament in the last month, Minnesota placed sixth at last weekend’s Southern Scuffle in Chattanooga, Tenn. The Gophers were led by four wrestlers who placed in the tournament: Brett Pfarr (second at 197 pounds), Michael Kroells (third at 285), Tommy Thorn (fifth at 141) and Sam Brancale (eighth at 133).
Both Pfarr and Kroells went 5-1 over the course of two days in Tennessee. Pfarr looked dominant throughout the tournament, posting more points in his first match (18) than he allowed his opponents in all six of his matches combined (17). Pfarr knocked off two ranked wrestlers, including upsetting No. 3 Conner Hartmann (Duke), before falling 3-2 in the championship bout to No. 1 Morgan McIntosh (Penn State). Like Pfarr, Kroells defeated a pair of ranked opponents, including avenging a loss earlier this season to No. 10 Max Wessell (Lehigh) with a big throw to win their consolation semifinal match in sudden victory overtime.
In addition to the four Gophers who placed at the Scuffle, four more – Steve Polakowski (125), Ethan Lizak (125), Brandon Kingsley (157) and Nick Wanzek (174) all reached Round of 12 matches, coming up just one match short of clinching top-eight finishes. Lizak wrestled unattached in the tournament, preserving his redshirt this season.
Minnesota returns to dual action this Friday when the Gophers host Maryland at 8:00 p.m. CT. Friday’s contest will be broadcast live on the Big Ten Network.

WWE has listed 16-time World Champion John Cena for several Live Events in December. Cena is scheduled to wrestle at the following WWE Live Events:
– 12/26 = RAW Live Event (Madison Square Garden)
– 12/27 = SmackDown Live Event (Long Island, New York)
– 12/28 = SmackDown Live Event (Baltimore, Maryland)
– 12/30 = SmackDown Live Event (Tampa, Florida)
This will be his first appearance back since last month’s Super Show-Down Event in Melbourne, Australia. On the event, Cena teamed up with Bobby Lashley to defeat Elias & Kevin Owens. Cena wouldn’t take any bumps in that match and only did his signature moves to finish off Elias for the victory, as seen in the video below:
Cena’s upcoming Transformers spin-off film, Bumblebee, will be released in The U.S. on December 21st. Last month, he became a New York Times #1 Best Seller Author thanks to his children’s book, Elbow Grease.
