Klopp: ‘Dominant’ Liverpool ‘not smart enough’ v Everton

Liverpool did not create enough chances to beat Everton on an “intense” return, admitted Jurgen Klopp.

Liverpool were unable to return from the three-month break with a win, as their rivals Everton held them to a goalless draw.

While the result was frustrating for Klopp’s side, they still just need five points to confirm their first league title in 30 years.

Liverpool had been in rampant form in the months leading up to the postponement of the league, but weren’t quite at their top gear for their first game back.

The circumstances upon the return were rather different, which Klopp admitted – although he was impressed with the intensity of the derby, even without fans present.

Klopp told Sky Sports: “It was a real fight. Both teams showed they understand it is a derby. Intense, physical, all players were all in.

“We didn’t have enough chances. Most of the time we were dominant but they had the biggest chance.

“Everton defended really well and we were not smart enough to use the space. That is normal when you start to play again.

“Football looks slightly different, but I take that.”

Ary Graca: I am proud of women´s volleyball team

London; United Kingdom, Dr. Ary Graca, President of the Brazilian Volleyball Federation, praised the Women’s Volleyball team for their Gold medal success at the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

On 11th August 2012, the Brazilian women’s team overcame USA after losing the first set 11-25 followed by winning three straight sets by scores of 25-17, 25-20 and 25-17. This is the second consecutive Gold medal for the Brazil women’s Volleyball team, who entered the tournament ranked second in the world behind the Americans.

Speaking about the victory, Dr. Ary Graça said: “I am exceptionally proud of the women’s Volleyball team and the Gold medal success that they have achieved here at the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. It is a fantastic result and very well deserved as they have worked incredibly hard to get this to stage and the Gold medal is testament of their hard work.

On 12th August 2012, the Brazilian men’s team won the Silver medal after losing to Russia in the Olympic Men’s Final in a five set (2-3) having beaten Italy (3-0) in the Olympic Men’s Semi-Final.

Serie A1 revolutionized enters into the new season

As in the last season in Serie A1 will play 12 teams, but none of them will be degraded to Serie A2. The reason of this big change is the economical crisis that lasts in Italy.

As we wrote here, starting from the new season instead of V-Day, to indicate a new Italian Champion, there will be a sequence of 5 matches in the Final round, preceded by Quarter- and Semi-Finals. The conqueror of Scudetto is the winner of 3 final matches.

An important change is also Video Check system, which will be tested during the season, that has to help the referees to judge correctly doubtful situations on the court. A similar system was introduced into the Polish PlusLiga and showed it might be useful but still has to be improved.

A cause celebre among transfers in the Italian league has become a big comeback to the professional volleyball playing of the Italian setter Giaccomo “Jack” Sintini, who restarts his adventure after winning a battle with cancer. It seems Trento found a good substitute for Raphael, after Lukasz Zygadlo has left. And this transfer makes the team even stronger. Not many changes in the team of the Italian Champions. Macerata joined Ivan Zaytsev (the most efficient player of the previous season) in substitution of Igor Omrcen. An interesting team built Piacenza. The team complemented Alessandro Fei, who spent 11 years in Sisley (Treviso, then Belluno). With Luciano De Cecco and Papi he will certainly fight for the most valuable trophies.

Three sets in Unterhaching & Ljubljana

The third round of the Champions League in group D was extremely fast. Both matches between Macerata & Generali and Asse Lennik & Ljubljana ended in three sets.

Lube Banca Marche Macerata in this edition of Champions League play excellent. However, the truth is that the champions of Italy aren’t in too demanding group. On Wednesday, they showed their strength in match with Generali Unterhaching.

Lube Banca has problems with outside hitters. Injured are Cristian Savani and Jiri Kovar. This issue didn’t disturb Lube to defeat Generali in three sets. First and third sets were completely dominated by Macerata, in the second set both teams presented good volleyball, but at the end Lube was smiling.

In Macerata Parodi, Zaytsev and Starovic presented themselves very well. All three attacked on high, more than 60% effectiveness! The leader of Generali was Christian Dunnes, but he hadn’t support of teammates.

Generali Unterhaching – Lube Banca Marche Macerata 0:3 (20:25, 24:26, 19:25)

Ljubljana also didn’t has any problems to overcome Euphony Asse-Lennik. The biggest difference that separated the two teams was an attack. Ljubljana, acquitted itself well in this element, as opposed to Euphony, which had big problems with the finish of the action.

It was not a thrilling match. From the first to the last set dominated ACH Volley Ljubljana, which in easy way got three points to group table.

Perfect match played 19-year-old Serbian, Uros Kovacevic, who in such young age is important player team from Ljubljana. In this match Kovacevic scored 22 points and attacked on 68% efficiency! He was unstoppable.

The team Euphony lacked player, who could take the weight of the game on his shoulders.

ACH Volley Ljubljana – Euphony Asse-Lennik 3:0 (25:19, 25:15, 25:15)

Bundesliga: Berlin is marching on

There have been few surprises in the German Bundesliga since its new campaign began a month ago. Berlin Recycling Volleys tops the ranking unbeaten after 8 rounds and aims at clutching the first spot till late February when the regular season ends.

It all started well for the champions. The calendar was scheduled in a perfect way for the guys of head coach Mark Lebedew and allowed them to properly divide their time between the CEV Champions League and the domestic games. Unlike their arch rivals Generali Unterhaching and VfB Friedrichshafen, Berlin Recycling Volleys had less experience playing two, sometimes even three, important games per week, so the main challenge would have been to redistribute physical and psychological strengths accrodingly. This is where the schedule came to help – the title holders started the 2012-2013 Bundesliga with two consecutive derby games in a row versus Friedrichshafen at home and away in Munich. Having clinched two wins in a week, Berlin RV were pumped up emotionally to make a successful Champions League group endeavour. The sequence of matches against theoretically easier opponents in Germany allowed them to rotate the squad and provide the necessary amount of rest when needed – vital when you have to travel to Asia, Novosirbisk to be more precise, and play a European Champions League game there in the middle of the week.

The Management Board members of Berlin RV are certainly satisfied with the good start of the season. Plus, they hit the jackpot recruiting the German international Robert Kromm who acts as the main scorer quite often, especially when Lebedew keeps rotating his opposites Spirovski and Carroll. We will witness eventually whether the Australian will get back to his usual shape and overtake Spirovski’s starting position this season.

As the team had been juggling three balls simultaneously, they had to sacrifice their German Cup (Pokal) participation quite early. The draw sent them in Unterhaching already in the last 16 round. The 3-2 win against the same opponent in the Munich Olympic Sports Hall could not be repeated in the small sports center in Unterhaching and the champions were left to focus on whatever they had in their basket.

This time last year was a period marked by a domination of Generali Unterhaching in the domestic league. The team was confident, thirsty for victories and their performance back then was raising questions whether they could be beaten at all in Germany. The second half of the previous season gave us a positive answer to that question, but still one could contemplate on the different behaviour of Paduretu‘s boys. True, Haching lost some names, Kaliberda, Gunthor and Cedeno left holes on the Generali wall, but the signing of Raymaekers and Shumov somewhat filled the problems in the middle. The Belgian and the Finn are impressive, they have shown solid skills since October. Jan Willem Snippe needed some time to accommodate to his new team and is now quite reliable as a starter. Surprisingly to me, Robert Hupka did not get the role of Kaliberda. The Slovakian national team player is still benched this season while it comes down to Alex Shafranovich to accompany Snippe in the starting list.

An important 3-2 Champions League victory in Ljubljana against the local ACH guarantees Haching a second-place spot behind the Italian champion Lube Banca Marche Macerata in the current standings, but in the next weeks the German vice-champion will have the chance to secure that position. The confidence boost for the Bavarians has been supported by the convincing win over Berlin Recycling Volleys for the Pokal and, of course, Sunday’s big  derby success at home against Friedrichshafen. Ventsislav Simeonov led VfB to a 2-1 margin before head coach Mihai Paduretu changed setters. Branislav Skladany, who had recently suffered lungs infection, helped Unterhaching come back to the game and win in five sets (25-23, 21-25, 22-25, 25-20, 15-12). With the addition of Patrick Steuerwald to the squad Paduretu has more options when it comes to changing game rhythm. Last year Skladany enjoyed full play time in important Haching games, this year the competition between the playmakers can only make the 2011-2012 runner-ups stronger when it comes to decisive moments.

Friedrichshafen currently looks a bit behind in the three-way title race. Ventsislav Simeonov is the absolute reason why VfB still holds on. The Bulgarian-born Italian is spending his first season abroad and is certainly enjoying a good team in a new league where his style has been unknown. The main problems for Stelian Moculescu nowadays seem to be linked to the outside attackers. ‘Idi’ and Jose Rivera are both far away from their best years and often, as was the case in the “Generali Arena” against Unterhaching, struggle. Rivera finished the game with a disappointing attack efficiency of 27 percent, while ‘Idi’ was the main serve target despite his decent contribution at the net.

It would not be a problem for VfB to take points in the Bundesliga despite the two away defeats in Berlin and Unterhaching. The main concern comes from the fact that their game sometimes just will not suffice. They had problems in Europe as well – a down-hearted loss in Roeselare, followed by narrow tie-break wins against the Belgians and the weaker Hypo Tirol Innsbruck, but only to be preceded by a 0-3 rout at home against Zenit Kazan.

Moerser SC is the team to come up right after the big three. The fourth-ranked club from the small town Moers signed in the last days before the Bundesliga start the former Dutch international Nico Freriks, who is actually the fourth Dutchman in the roster and the seventh foreigner overall, which turned out to be a quite good move after the release of Dirk-Jan van Gendt. Their schedule, however, opposes them to Generali Unterhaching, VfB Friedrichshafen and evivo Dueren consecutively in the next days, so it would come as no surprise if Moerser drop their fourth position.

We finish the Bundesliga update session with a wish to the bottom-placed Volley Club Olympia Berlin. This is the youngest team in the league and definitely one of the youngest permier league teams in Europe comprising of future German national team players. All the youngsters are born in the period 1993-1994 and some of them are even already part of the Youth and Junior national representations. The interesting decision to let them play in a senior league with all the experienced professionals does not lead to positive results as they not only miss a victory, but have won just three sets. Nevertheless, we wish them fast growth and patience to await their future success.

Standings:

1 – Berlin Recycling Volleys, 7 games, 14-0 points
2 – Generali Unterhaching, 8, 14-2
3 – VfB Friedrichshafen, 8, 12-4

Greek Women’s League: AEK and Olympiacos are the finalists

ΑΕΚ disqualified OPE Rethimnon at the first phase of the play offs and Olympiacos, Iraklis Kifisias.

Click Here: All Blacks Rugby Jersey

The winner of the play offs much achieve 3 winnings total (the games of the regular season are included). AEK won Olympiacos 2 times during the regular season so it needed 1 more, but Olympiacos made the break and won the following 2 games. Now the 2 teams has to play one last game tomorrow, Monday 8th of March. Lets see who will be the new Champion of 2012-2013.

The Games:

Olympiacos at the first of the finals took a great win over AEK by 1-3 (20-25, 23-25, 25-21, 16-25) at AEK’s court. Olympiacos took easily the first set and a bit harder the second second set. AEK made a lot of mistakes in defense and receive and AEK’s block wasn’t working as it should. As a result Olympiacos mastered in attack especially with the Bulgarian Radosveta Teneva and took a lead by 0-2. AEK reacted at the third set, found its pace and with the help of its incredible fans that filled the court once more, won the set. AEK started with the same pace the fourth set but an unfortunate injury of its best receiver Athanasia Totsidou startled all the players and from then on AEK couldn’t play the way it should and Olympiacos took a great win.

The second game was hold at Olympiacos’ hall, Melina Merkouri on Thursday at 18.30. AEK was still facing a lot of problems in reception, Apostolos Oikonomou tried a lot to cover the absence of Athanasia Totsidou by using other players, but the bad reception especially of Mari Mendes was a great problem. Olympiacos on the other hand had a lot of solutions, in a great day Radosveta Teneva, made few mistakes and had a solid block so it took the second win by 3-1 (25-17, 23-25, 25-23, 25-21).

Tomaso Totolo: To lose Gavin was a real dramma for us

Gavin Schimtt decided to leave Iskra Odintsovo. Thus, the club just before the play-out was only with one spiker. – It was the choice of Gavin and I can’t comment it – said Tomaso Totolo, coach of Iskra.

On 16 April Gavin Schmitt decided to leave Iskra Odintsovo, thereby leaving the club in a very difficult situation just before the round of play-out. Let’s recall that in the 1/8 of Superleague Tomaso Totolo’s team twice lost with Gazprom Surgut and thaht’s why has to fight for places 9-16.

The reason for leaving the Canadian spiker weren’t personal reasons but the economic. The club for a long time is delaying with payments not only athletes but also coaches. – It was the choice of Gavin and I can’t comment his decision. I have to take care of the team but for all of us it’s a huge stress – said Tomaso Totolo.

As already mentioned, Schmitt left the band just before the first round of the play-out. – For all of us it was a real dramma! Especially from a psychological point of view, but in technical aspect it’s a great loss – commented Tomaso Totolo. We could see it in the attitude of the team because Iskra, with only one available spiker, an experienced Roman Yakovlev, was losing match after match. – At the end of the week we regained balance and lost in the tie-break with Dinamo Moscow and after that we beat a team from Grozny. Next week we will begin a second round, we will fight with Dynamo – everything will be open. For sure we’ll be also better prepared for these games, in both aspects: psychological and technical – finished Italian coach.

Rodrigo Quiroga: France is in a great level

Argentina lost to Poland last Weekend, and will face France in Salta in the last two matches before Final 6 held in Mar del Plata. Argentinean wing spiker Rodrigo Quiroga analyzed the losses against the polish and gave its impressions of their next rival.

After returning to Buenos Aires, Quiroga analyzed Argentina’s performance against Poland: “Despite the losses, it was a positive Weekend: we played against last World League Champions, a great team. First match we were closer to victory than in the second one, but we did a good job and little by little we are reaching our best level. The reason why I didn’t play was merely technical: Javier told me that he wanted to evaluate Bruno and Poglajen. Unluckily, Pereyra got injured and as the list of 12 cannot be modified, I couldn’t play even on Sunday.”

Saturday and Sunday, Argentina will face France in Salta. Quiroga, former captain of Weber’s men, gave his point of view regarding the importance of this weekend’s matches: “The series against France will be very tough, mostly because it’s the last two matches before de Final 6, and we need to find the team to get in our best shape for the finals. Also, we know that France is in a great level, after beating Brazil and Poland. Undoubtedly the two matches will be very hard, but playing at home and with the support of our people, we will try to win and reach Final 6 the best way we can.”

Finally, he explained what playing in Poland means: “Poland is amazing. Playing in their stadiums, with all people cheering in unbelievable. It’s like football in Argentina and other parts of the world, it’s a very nice place to play in. I’m sure next year’s World Cup will be awesome, a real party.”

Yeon-Koung Kim banned? Heungkuk’s case

The best Korean player, Kim Yeong-Konug (OH/OPP) can be banned from playing in upcoming club season by Korean Volley Association.

Yesterday, president of KVA announced that they won’t issue ITC (permission for playing in clubs) for Kim this year. Case is more complicated because of Life Heungkuk (foremer Kim’s club) and KOVO (pro league federation). Kim is conflicted with Heungkuk since last year.

Kim was drafted (allocated by draft) to Heungkuk in 2005. According to KOVO’s rules player has to play 6 years before becoming a free agent. Kim played there 4 years and till 2009. Later she had been playing as rental player in Japanese V-League (JT Marvellous) for 2 years, what makes 6 years. From 2011 Yeon-Koung Kim is player of Fenerbahce Istanbul. She would play also in Turkey in upcoming season, but here Heungkuk and KOVO are appearing. Club claims that she belongs to them and KOVO didn’t let her play.

2nd July, Kim is categorized as the player arbitrarily withdrawn by KOVO (pro league federation), and they announced that she can not play neither domestic nor abroad anywhere never. And Heungkuk asked again to Kim through ‘their’ media, to give a conference to the korean public , showing all sincere apologies about making the problem such worse and giving negative images to Heungkuk life insurance. Otherwise, they will not start any negotiation. In Korea situation is presented via media in other way, blaming Kim for everything.

What’s more weird Kim isn’t excluded from NT and she appeared on NT roster list for asian qualification for WCH 2014. Federation is saying, even if Kim is the arbitrarily withdrawn player now, it is the matter with KOVO, nothing to do with KVA. and it will be also good for her to play in NT, showing that her motivation to play abroad. We can not give her ITC to play abroad however. because she is arbitrarily withdrawn player.

The president of KVA announced today that they will not issue an ITC for her this season. Unless she apologizes to Heungkuk first, then accepts the condition that club proposes her. They suggest 5 years loan abroad and 2 years in domestic. (Heungkuk will choose her club, negiotiate salary condition, loan fee and so on) Other proposal is complete transfer for 1M$, but Kim has to apologize first.

Fans are persuading her to be naturalized to other country. Korean media claim that it means 2 years suspension by FIVB. Heungkuk with whole media are pushing her that she has no choice other than accept all club wants because naturalization can not be a solution. Kim hasn’t said anything about changing federation yet.

Last Monday Kim had a press conference. She requests followings to HK, KOVO and KVA.
1. As HK insisted in the last year on July, request to FIVB after having canceled the agreement
2. KOVO, please answer to the official request and claim that I sent on 10th July 2013.
3. KVA, please answer to the official request that I sent on 5th July 2013.
4. KVA, ask to FIVB, about the article 8 of the document
5. Since the arbitration by KVA was unfair, until the decision is made by CAS or domestic law, issue an ITC.
She waited for answers till yesterday. She doesn’t want to play as a player of KOVO anymore, if she doesn’t get answer until 25th July. If she doesn’t get answers from KVA, she’ll probably retire from NT.
Yesterday KVA announced that they’ll answer to Kim till the end of month. Confront to many criticism by media, she seems to withdrew her statement about retirement from NT on the condition that KVA gives the answer until the end of this month.
Situation isn’t still clear, next few days seems to be crucial. I hope that sides will reach an agreement and we’ll delight Kim playing next season.
