‘Tired of the Pogbas’; Solskjaer urged to sign ‘humble’ €50m star

Ronald de Boer has urged Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to sign Ajax midfielder Donny van de Beek for Manchester United, as a potential alternative to Paul Pogba.

United legend Edwin Van der Sar confirmed United’s interest in Van de Beek earlier this week, with Ajax lining up an Everton flop as his replacement.

Reports claimed the midfielder had agreed a €50 million move to Real Madrid, but the La Liga giants are now thought to have got cold feet due to the uncertainty of their finances following the coronavirus crisis.

This has paved the way for United to make a move, and De Boer insists Van de Beek would be a fine addition to Solskjaer’s squad.

“When you hear these clubs pass by, I know your heart will beat faster,” De Boer told FOX Sports, via Metro.

“Maybe this train will never pass by anymore for him.

“If Real Madrid again decide not to report themselves at Donny, then I can understand it if he decides to go to Manchester United instead.

“On the one hand, I understand that Real Madrid are hesitating a bit.

“Another club could think, ‘hey, an interesting player, maybe we can get him for a little less’. For example Manchester United.”

De Boer claims the 23-year-old is the kind of player Solskjaer is looking for, as he looks to further instil the values he was brought up on as a player at Old Trafford.

“Solskjaer has indicated that he wants to go in a new direction and wants players who are humble, their heart is with the club, a team player.

“I think he is tired of the Pogbas running around. He wants players like Donny van de Beek.”

Chelsea put four up for sale to fund Chilwell move

Chelsea are reportedly willing to part with four defenders to raise the transfer fee necessary to sign Ben Chilwell from Leicester.

Frank Lampard is thought to be keen to strengthen the left-back position after securing deals for Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner.

The England international could cost up to £85million and Lampard will look to raise some of that fund by offloading other members of his squad.

And The Times report that four defenders are available to be sold.

One of the left-backs, Marcos Alonso or Emerson Palmieri, are expected to be shown the Stamford Bridge exit to make room for Chilwell.

And the Chelsea bosses are reportedly also willing to listen to offers for centre-back duo Kurt Zouma and Andreas Christensen.

Zouma is said to have caught the eye of Spurs Jose Mourinho, with the pair having worked together at Stamford Bridge.

Liverpool boss Klopp explains why he ‘likes’ the lack of fans

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is enjoying watching his players create their own atmosphere as his side warmed up for their Premier League return with a 6-0 Anfield friendly win over Blackburn.

The match not only enabled Klopp to step up his players’ fitness levels ahead of the Merseyside derby on June 21 but also to adapt to the closed-door surroundings and the safety protocols.

FEATURE: Every Premier League club’s Project Restart friendlies

On the lack of supporters, Klopp told Liverpool’s website: “Yes, it’s different, of course. You need to get used to it, but I like it. After three times, it is completely OK.

“I thought before – and I don’t have experience in this area – that it would be really awkward, but we have to create our own atmosphere in the games.

“We have to be lively as well, we have to be animated and stuff like this. Being positive about the things that have happened and so on, that’s how you can create an atmosphere – and it’s what we have to do as well. Apart from that, it is Anfield.”

Klopp is also trying to ensure there are no surprises for his players when they deal with the unusual new rules and protocols designed to stop the spread of Covid-19.

“Everything is different” he said. “The boys now go home and they didn’t have a shower. It was raining before the game, so that would have been funny if there had been really hard rain and then you drive home in your own car and you didn’t have a shower.

“Our meeting was here in the boardroom. We want to have it like this, we can organise it differently at Anfield when we play here, but we have no clue how it’ll be at away games and we need to create as awkward-as-possible situations just to not be surprised.

“We want to focus completely on football and whatever happens around the games, we just take it like it is.”

Chief admits Lyon will ‘analyse’ offers for ‘incredible’ City target

Lyon sporting director Juninho had admitted that the club will “analyse” offers for star midfielder Houssem Aouar, amid rumours of interest from Manchester City.

With David Silva set to leave the Etihad at the end of the season, Pep Guardiola may be looking to bolster his midfield.

Phil Foden has been touted as heir to club legend Silva, but Guardiola has previously admitted his admiration for 21-year-old Aouar.

The Frenchman was superb in both games against City in the Champions League group stages in the 2018/19 season, prompting Guardiola to admit: “Houssem Aouar is a very good player. He is incredible.

“We talk a lot about [Tanguy] Ndombele, but Aouar is also excellent. He’s always very calm with the ball at his feet, with an excellent technical quality.”

City have consistently been linked with Aouar since, and Juninho has admitted that Lyon may struggle to hold on to him.

“Houssem was formed here, he has been here for a long time,” the Brazilian said, reports the Manchester Evening News.

“He brings us the technical touch required in midfield. But we know that the majority of youth academy talents here, who have Houssem’s talent, have left at one moment or another. It is the president who will decide. If we receive offers, we will analyse them. He is an important player.”
