‘Very violent’ Mourinho admits he was a ‘d*ckhead’ at Inter

Jose Mourinho has recalled being “very violent” towards his players after a loss during his time at Italian club Inter Milan.

The Portuguese coach had an extremely successful two seasons in charge of Inter, winning two Serie A titles, a Coppa Italia and a Champions League.

However, current Tottenham boss Mourinho admits he made some mistakes during his tenure at the San Siro and there were times where he acted like “a d*ckhead”.

MAILBOX: Liverpool may have slipped again but City would’ve f**ked it

“There are relationships: I coach, you play. Empathy depends on the ability to accept me as I am – it’s like a puzzle,” Mourinho told Gazzetta dello Sport. “At Inter, there were people waiting for someone like me to complete that puzzle. I’m never fake, I’m original: it’s me and that’s it. I was also a d*ckhead, but that was me.”

When asked to elaborate, Mourinho used a 3-1 loss in January 2009 as an example, he added: “Especially after the defeat against Bergamo. I was very violent with the players – I told them they had won the Scudetto of sh*t. It was only afterwards that I understood I had hurt them and I apologised.”

Mourinho continued: “I was at my best when I felt at home, where I could feel the emotions of the group, where I was 200 per cent invested with my heart. That’s why, on May 22 in Madrid, I was content to experience the happiness of others, all the way from [president Massimo] Moratti to the people working in the warehouse.

“I had already won a Champions League title – I used to always think of myself first and then others. At Inter, it was never like that.

“In a family, when you become a father, you understand that someone is more important than you and that you move into second place.

“Ten years later, we are all together again. Just the other day I spoke to Alessio, my driver from my time at Inter. Where and when does it happen that a coach who leaves, ten years later still talks to the driver? Never. That’s Inter for me. These are my people.”

‘Key pillar’ of Man Utd rebuild threatened by Bayern interest

Bayern Munich are interested in signing Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho amid interest from Man Utd, according to reports.

The England international winger has been in outstanding form for the Bundesliga outfit this season, notching 17 goals and adding 19 assists from just 35 appearances across all competitions.

It was claimed back in April that he had agreed to provisional personal terms over a switch to Old Trafford, although no transfer agreement has been finalised as Man Utd hope that Dortmund’s will lower their hefty asking price.

The Red Devils could have some competition though in the form of Bundesliga champions Bayern with ESPN sources claiming that the German outfit ‘made enquiries about him before the coronavirus shutdown’.

Despite Bayern’s interest in Manchester City winger Leroy Sane, the report adds that the Bundesliga side are ‘keeping their options open and will press ahead with a bid for Sancho if any move for Sane stalls’.

However, any bid from Bayern could ‘include a premium’ with Dortmund keen to shake off the tag that they are a ‘feeder club’ for their domestic rivals.

Sancho remains ‘one of the key pillars’ in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s ‘United rebuild’ and the report claims that Man Utd are still the favourites to land the England international.

Essien names Chelsea player that convinced him to reject Man Utd

Michael Essien says he would have “loved” to join Man Utd but Didier Drogba and Jose Mourinho convinced him to join Chelsea.

The former Ghana international spent nine years at Stamford Bridge after signing from Lyon in 2005 for a reported fee of £24.4m.

Essien won two Premier League titles, four FA Cups, a League Cup and a Champions League during his time at Chelsea.

However, Essien has revealed it could have all been different if Drogba and Mourinho hadn’t teamed up to persuade him to reject Man Utd and sign for the Londoners.

“My second year at Lyon, when we finished the season, I came back to start pre-season with them and I came back very happy to start pre-season. That’s when the other teams started coming in like Chelsea and Manchester United,” Essien told South African reporter Carol Tshabalala (via The Metro).

“At that point I’d have loved to have joined United. But I was speaking with Jose every other day and he made it clear, very straight to me, that he wanted me to join Chelsea and there was only Chelsea that could pay the transfer fee at that time.

“It was not easy but I remember the first time I spoke to Jose. I went to Malouda’s house for a barbeque and then during the barbeque Drogba called him and he and Drogba started speaking because they are very close and then Drogba asked him, ‘When you see Michael, whenever you see him, can you tell him Jose wants his number, Jose wants to talk to him?’ but then he said, ‘No, Michael is here, we’re having a barbeque!’.

“So he gave the phone to me and I started speaking to Drogba and that’s how we started. I passed on my number to him and he passed it on to Jose and that’s when everything started. It was a tough transfer saga.”

Klopp shares hope that Neville ‘can have a bit more time off’

Jurgen Klopp hopes that Gary Neville “can have a bit more time off” during the Premier League’s hiatus.

Klopp joked earlier this month that, “I didn’t learn a lot during lockdown except Gary Neville has an opinion on absolutely everything!”

The pair have clashed previously, most notably over Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius.

Neville offered something of an olive branch by naming Klopp as the current Premier League manager he would most like to have played for.

“I usually don’t watch that kind of stuff,” he told Sky Sports. “Now, in lockdown, I obviously had too much time and I watched a lot and read newspapers.

“I don’t think it’s his fault. If you get asked a lot of questions, you have to give a lot of answers. But I realised it in this time more than ever before!

“Hopefully we can fill the newspapers again in the future with some different stuff, and then he can have a bit more time off! I would wish it for him at least.”

Klopp added that there is no pressure on his Liverpool players to attend group training if they do not feel it is safe to do so, with Chelsea having given N’Golo Kante permission to miss session this week.

“It is the players’ choice and that is clear,” he said.

“I said before the session, ‘You are here on free will. Usually you sign a contract and you have to be in when I tell you, but in this case if you don’t feel safe, you don’t have to be here’.

“There are no restrictions, no punishment, nothing. It’s their own decision and we respect that 100 per cent.”

15 Charged At Lakewood Funeral; Mourners Were Told To Stay Away

LAKEWOOD, NJ — Fifteen people were charged with violating Gov. Phil Murphy’s ban on gatherings after police were called to disperse a crowd that gathered for the funeral of a prominent rabbi on Wednesday, authorities said Thursday.

The funeral was for Rabbi Chaim Moshe Strulovic, a revered rabbi in Lakewood who died Wednesday of the coronavirus. The gathering happened in spite of multiple warnings that went out from community leaders and in spite of a teleceonference that was set up so mourners could participate. Murphy banned all public gatherings on March 21.

Between 60 and 70 people were gathered at 8th Street and Madison Avenue for the funeral when police were called about 6:30 p.m., Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer and Lakewood Township Police Chief Gregory Meyer said in a joint news release.

Strulovic is one of at least six rabbis in Lakewood who have died after contracting the coronavirus. Read more: 5 Rabbis From Lakewood Among NJ’s Coronavirus Fatalities: Reports

Authorities have warned that police will be stationed near the cemetery by Lakewood High School to prevent crowds from gathering for funerals.

Lakewood police tried to disperse the crowd but the group became unruly and argumentative, Billhimer said. One man, Samuel Manheim, 27, of Brooklyn, was arrested; Billhimer said Manheim refused to identify himself and gave authorities a false name and Social Security number.

Manheim was arrested after several attempts to positively identify him, Billhimer said, and he was charged with hindering his own apprehension and violating any rule or regulation adopted by the governor during a state of emergency.

In addition, the following were charged with violating any rule or regulation adopted by the governor during a state of emergency: Joel Jakubowitz, 36, and Shimon Hus, 18, both of Brooklyn; and Marcus Strulovic, 43, Nossom Strulovic, 25, Solomon Strulovic, 21, Joel Strulovic, 39, Mitchell Strulovic, 24, Mordechi Strulovic, 18, Bernard Strulovic, 45, David Kaf, 37, Moshe Friedman, 20, Yosef Kohn, 35, Alexander Ellison, 64, and Shimon Cardozo, 25, all of Lakewood.

The funeral was just the latest in a string of gatherings in Lakewood that have included weddings, a bar mitzvah and an engagement party in the days since Murphy first limited gatherings on March 16 and then banned them altogether on March 21. The incidents have angered residents of neighboring towns who have expressed concerns that people attending the gatherings are becoming exposed to the virus and unknowingly spreading it to others.

Lakewood rabbis have issued orders that no one is to travel either outside of Lakewood or gather with family members within the township for the upcoming Passover observances, because of Murphy’s ban on gatherings, according to a letter posted by the Lakewood Scoop.

“The governor has banned all public gatherings during this state and national public health emergency. This ban applies to everyone,” Billhimer said. “To be blunt, ignoring the governor’s order places lives at risk – not just the lives of everyday citizens, but the lives of our brave men and women in law enforcement who are required to respond in order to break up these unlawful gatherings.”

On Wednesday, Murphy and New Jersey State Police Col. Patrick Callahan again addressed the issue of gatherings, which have been an issue across the state. A lockdown has been ordered in four cities, including Newark, where there have been persistent problems. Callahan said 125 summonses were issued in Newark at a gathering there on Tuesday.

“Every single resident of this state needs to step up and stay home,” Callahan said, adding that he and his wife have postponed their daughter’s June wedding because of the ongoing crisis. “That’s how important this is.”

He said state police are partnering with the prosecutor’s office, the sheriff’s office and Lakewood police to force people to comply with the bans and adhere to social distancing to help slow the spread of the coronavirus.

As of Wednesday morning, more than 22,000 people have tested positive for COVID-19 across the state, including more than 1,100 in Ocean County and 450 in Lakewood. More than 350 people in New Jersey have died, as of Wednesday’s reports from health department officials. Read more: NJ Coronavirus Updates: Here’s What You Need To Know

“We’re going to be out every day and night with state police” enforcing the ban, Murphy said. “We have got to get 100 percent compliance and we’re not going to be nice about it.”

“I am imploring everyone to abide by the governor’s order and stay at home, so that we might all get through this very difficult time together — as painlessly as possible,” Billhimer said.

NYC Doctor Who Separated Conjoined Twins Dies Of Coronavirus

NEW YORK CITY — A New York City neurosurgeon who made medical history when he separated two infant twins with intertwined brains died from novel coronavirus, Montefiore Hospital announced.

Dr. James T. Goodrich, pediatric neurosurgery chief at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, died from COVID-19 complications Monday morning, hospital officials confirmed.

“Our beloved colleague, mentor, teacher, brother-in-arms passed away early this morning,” the hospital wrote in a tweet.

“As a last act of service to others, he will forever remind us that Covid-19 is not a faceless disease. He will always be in our hearts.”

The hospital did not immediately respond to Patch’s request for more information.

Goodrich earned worldwide acclaim in 2017 when he famously separated Anias and Jadon McDonald, cranially conjoined 13-month-old boys, during a 27-hour long surgery.

Years later, their mom Nicole McDonald cried in a video interview as she described Goodrich and what his expertise and dedication meant for her family.

“I was told their was no chance that I would have a child,” McDonald said, noting both the boys were attending school. “It’s what you dream of, I guess.”

Goodrich used his skill at separating cranially conjoined twins — which relied on virtual planning and 3D printing technologies — to help families from across the globe.

Goodrich separated Filipino twins Clarence and Carl Aguirre in 2004 and, as CBS News reported, the boys celebrated their 10th birthdays in Scarsdale in 2014.

“When they were born, the doctors at home told me, ‘You have to choose which one is to live,'” their mother, Arlene Aguirre, said. “The doctors here did not ask me to choose.”

More recently, Goodrich helped separate twin girls Ysabelle and Ysadora Freitas, from Ceará, Brazil in 2019.

“They were born again,” their mother Débora Freitas said at the time. “First by me, second by the doctors. I am so happy, I’m going to jump and my heart is going to explode.”

Goodrich is a graduate of the University of California, Irvine, Columbia University and completed his residency at Presbyterian Hospital in New York City and the New York Neurological Institute.

First CA Coronavirus Death Reported In Northern California

PLACER COUNTY, CA — An elderly person in Placer County with underlying health conditions has died from COVID-19, the illness caused by the new coronavirus, officials announced Wednesday. The death is the first in California caused by the virus, and the 11th total in the United States.

The patient, whose age and gender were not disclosed, tested presumptively positive Tuesday after having likely been exposed on a round-trip Princess cruise between San Francisco and Mexico from Feb. 11 to 21, Placer County officials said in a statement.

The patient was being kept in isolation at Kaiser Permanente Roseville Medical Center.

“We extend our deepest condolences to the loved ones of this patient,” Placer County Health Officer Dr. Aimee Sisson said in a statement. “While we have expected more cases, this death is an unfortunate milestone in our efforts to fight this disease, and one that we never wanted to see.”

The person had “minimal community exposure” in the six days between when they returned from the cruise and when they were taken to the hospital in an ambulance Thursday, according to a preliminary investigation by health officials.

People who did come into contact with the patient — 10 Kaiser Permanente health care workers and five emergency responders — are now in quarantine, officials said. They are not experiencing symptoms, officials said.

In a statement, Gov. Gavin Newsom said state and federal officials were working to trace the contacts of all people who were exposed to the patient.

Other cruise passengers may also have been exposed, and officials are working to identify and contact them. A health officer for the Grand Princess ship, currently en route to Mexico, told passengers Wednesday morning that the ship would return to San Francisco.

Outside California, all U.S. deaths from COVID-19 had previously been limited to Washington state, where an outbreak in the Seattle area has caused 10 deaths — many of them linked to an elder care facility in the city of Kirkland.

Also on Wednesday, Los Angeles County declared a state of emergency after announcing six new COVID-19 cases.

To help vulnerable people stay safe, Placer County health officials urged them to stay home as much as possible, turn away visitors who are showing symptoms of their own, wash hands regularly and avoid contact with people and common surfaces when leaving the house.
