Click Here: liverpool mens jersey

Pundits rank Klopp as Premier League’s sixth-best manager

Ian Wright and Alan Shearer both rate Jurgen Klopp as the sixth-best manager in Premier League history, and greatest never to have won the competition.

Klopp was appointed Liverpool manager in October 2015 and has transformed the club since, taking them to Champions League glory last summer and the brink of the title this campaign.

The Reds are 25 points clear of Manchester City and within two games of their first top-flight title since 1990, with UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin suggesting he “can’t see a way“ Liverpool are not crowned champions despite the threat of a voided season.

Even without a winner’s medal in his collection, Match of the Day pundits Wright and Shearer both rank Klopp as the sixth-best coach in Premier League history.

“I don’t think you can argue with what Liverpool have done in the last couple of years,” said Wright. “You just have to hope that something can be resolved so they can take the trophy they so richly deserve.

“We’re talking about somebody who has come in and Liverpool had a 60-page dossier on him. You know, he had a four-hour interview. He knew exactly what he wanted, laid it out, told them exactly what he was going to do and he’s done it up to this point. The only thing that can stop someone like Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp at the moment is something like this bloody virus.

“We do this in another three, four, five years and Jurgen Klopp is well up there. He’s way up there.”

Both Wright and Shearer had Sir Alex Ferguson, Arsene Wenger, Jose Mourinho, Pep Guardiola and Sir Kenny Dalglish ahead of the German on their respective lists, with the candidates chosen by BBC commentators.

Chelsea tipped to sign £15m star Man Utd ‘seem not to value’

Odion Ighalo could join a top European club such as Chelsea as Manchester United “seem not to value him enough”.

Ighalo joined United from Shanghai Shenhua in a January loan deal until the end of the season.

The 30-year-old has had quite the impact at Old Trafford, leading to suggestions that he could sign permanently for £15m.

Ighalo has a reported £400,000-a-week offer from Shanghai Shenhua to stay in China but former Nigeria international Abdul Sule believes he could join another club in Europe, including Premier League rivals Chelsea.

“I see Odion Ighalo earning a big-money move from top European teams when his loan expires at Manchester United,” Sule to Goal.

“I don’t think Man United are keen on retaining him because they seem not to value him enough to hand him a regular place. He also may not be wanted again when Marcus Rashford is fit.

“I will not advise him to return to China now despite the attractive offer but would urge him to stay in Europe. I won’t be surprised if Chelsea, Manchester City, Real Madrid or Barcelona come for him.

“He has proven that he’s got a lot to offer at the highest level within his short stay at Man United and he can attract big brands and earn more money, playing in any of the top teams in England.

“He can always still return to China later in his career but right now, I think he has what it takes to shine in Europe.”

Sheffield United furlough ‘some’ staff but make pay pledge

Sheffield United have furloughed some permanent and casual staff but will continue to pay them in full.

Employees who are unable to perform their regular duties due to the shutdown of football are the ones affected, but the Blades are not currently using the government’s job retention scheme.

A club statement read: “Sheffield United Football Club has informed its staff of the decision to furlough some employees who are unable to perform their regular day-to-day duties at this time.

“These are predominantly casual employees but include a small number of permanent staff.

“The club confirms that permanent and casual staff will continue to be paid in full, despite the challenges of dealing with the impact of Covid-19.”

The Blades, who were pushing for Champions League qualification before the coronavirus halted the footballing calendar, have not ruled out using the job retention scheme in the future.

The statement added: “Those furloughed have been given the green light to sign up for the NHS volunteering scheme or similar initiatives in lieu of regular employment at Bramall Lane or other club sites.

“Senior officials at the club are aware of the Government’s Job Retention Scheme. At a later date, after the full financial impact of the situation can be more accurately quantified, the club will assess whether or not to participate in the JRS.

“All at Sheffield United Football Club would also like to pass on the best wishes to everyone, locally, nationally and internationally, affected by the current pandemic.”

Berbatov lifts lid on Man Utd ‘promise’ Ferguson broke

Former Man Utd striker Dimitar Berbatov claims Sir Alex Ferguson broke a “promise” that he would give him a week’s rest on signing for the Premier League club.

The ex-Bulgaria international signed for Manchester United in 2008 from Tottenham for a reported £30.75m fee.

Berbatov went on to score 56 goals in 149 appearances for the Old Trafford outfit before eventually leaving for Fulham in 2012.

And the 39-year-old has explained his experience signing for Man Utd as he joined before a big match against arch-rivals Liverpool.

“Liverpool was the team we were trying to surpass on league titles when I got to Old Trafford. They had 18, we had 17,” Berbatov told the official Man Utd website.

“Sir Alex was with me when we were finalising the transfer and it was so last minute, so worrying that it was happening so late, that he said: ‘Berba, I know it’s stressful, what you’re going through, but, when we finish this, I promise you can have a week’s break so you can get yourself together.’

“Okay, that works.

“As soon as I signed, it was: ‘Okay, get ready. Next game is Liverpool.’ In my head, I’m like: Where’s my one-week break?!

” But that was all fine. As the game got closer, I could feel the excitement, the nerves, the tension.

“You start to get more and more knowledge about the rivalry and the history between the two clubs. The expectation of winning the game, of performing, it’s important.

“This is all building up until, on the day of the game, I stepped out on the pitch for the first time… and it was something new.”

Bakery Awarded $44 Million In Lawsuit Against Oberlin College

OBERLIN, OH – A year’s long dispute between Gibson’s Bakery and Oberlin College came to an end this week when David Gibson was awarded $44 million in damages.

The source of the dispute was a reaction to a November 2016 incident. A black Oberlin College student came into the bakery that fall and attempted to buy alcohol using a fake ID. Allyn Gibson chased the student out of the store and the two began to fight. Two other black students joined in the altercation, according to the Associated Press.

The three black students all later pleaded guilty to misdemeanors and said in court that Allyn’s actions were not racially motivated.

However, following the initial incident, Oberlin College students protested outside of the bakery and members of the Oberlin College senate claimed the Gibsons had a history of racially profiling customers. A messy feud developed, with conservative activists rallying around the bakery.

The Gibsons said their business was crippled in the fallout, leading to layoffs and an inability to make payments to working family members. The Gibsons also accused members of Oberlin’s staff of encouraging the protests.

In a statement issued Friday by Oberlin College President Carmen Twillie Ambar, she said, “Let me be absolutely clear: This is not the final outcome. This is, in fact, just one step along the way of what may turn out to be a lengthy and complex legal process. I want to assure you that none of this will sway us from our core values. It will not distract, deter, or materially harm our educational mission, for today’s students or for generations to come.”

Two-Thirds Of U.S. 4th Graders Are Not Proficient In Reading

Click:凤楼

NEW YORK, NY — Reading and math scores for children in the United States continue to languish at the national level, according to an annual report published Monday by the Annie E. Casey Foundation.

The report found that 65 percent of 4th graders were not proficient in reading in 2017, which represents an improvement of 3 percentage points since 2009. Meanwhile, 67 percent of 8th graders weren’t proficient in math, the same as 2009.

Reading proficiency by the end of third grade and math proficiency by the end of 8th grade are key markers in a child’s development, Leslie Boissiere, vice president of external affairs at the organization, told Patch this week. After third grade, children are expected to be able to use their reading skills to learn other subjects. Mastery becomes vital for students to continue their learning.

“Children who reach fourth grade without being able to read proficiently are more likely to struggle academically and eventually drop out of school,” the report said.

Additionally, students with strong math and science skills are more likely to graduate from high school, complete college and earn higher incomes, the report said. But Boissiere acknowledged there’s been little or no progress made since 2009 when it comes to reading and math proficiency.

“Our kids aren’t benefiting from the strength of a public education system that ensures that they have the knowledge and skills they need to be successful in careers and in life,” said Boissiere.

The data showed vast gaps at the national level in proficiency levels along racial and ethnic lines, as well as between states.

While 54 percent of white 4th graders weren’t proficient at reading, about 8 in 10 children who are African-American, American Indian and Latino weren’t reading at grade level.

Similarly, 57 percent of white 8th graders weren’t proficient in math, but that number was 87 percent for African-American kids, 81 percent for American Indian and 80 percent for Latinos.

Massachusetts was the only state in 2017 where more than half of 4th-graders were reading at grade level. The state had the lowest percentage of kids who were not proficient in reading at 49 percent. New Mexico had the highest at 75 percent.

Massachusetts 8th graders also performed best in math, with the lowest share of students not proficient at 50 percent. Louisiana had the highest rate at 81 percent.

Woman Tries To Snatch Two Kids From Parents At Atlanta Airport

ATLANTA – A woman was arrested Sunday morning at Hartsfield Jackson Atlanta International Airport after she attempted to kidnap two children, an incident which was caught on surveillance video. Police said Esther Daniels, 26, tried to snatch a stroller with a child in it. When the child’s mother jumped in, police said Daniels tried to grab one of the family’s other children. The family’s father then intervened.

An Atlanta police traffic control officer then rushed over to break up the melee and help detain Daniels. The video, which has been released by Atlanta police, shows a hysterical Daniels being restrained and then taken away.

The metro Atlanta family was on their way to Disney World, police said, when the attack happened around 5 am.

APD Spokeswoman Tashena Brown praised the officer’s actions. “She deserves all the praise,” Brown told WSB-TV. “Especially for her to have been working, really, in a civilian capacity, for her to just to jump in right away with no hesitation is amazing.”

Daniels is being held in a Clayton County jail on charges of kidnapping and obstructing an officer. She is set for a July 11 preliminary hearing.
