Ex-Chelsea man lifts lid on why it can be ‘difficult’ to play for Mourinho

Wayne Bridge thinks he was “harshly treated” during his time under Jose Mourinho at Chelsea and has explained why it can be “difficult” to play for the Portuguese coach.

The former England international started off as a regular under Mourinho at Chelsea but a serious ankle injury picked up in February 2005 saw him struggle to win his place back over the following 12 months.

A short loan spell at Fulham helped him regain his form and force his way back into Mourinho’s plans for the start of the 2006-07 campaign before he gradually lost his place at Chelsea to new signing Ashley Cole.

FEATURE: Premier League XIs: A surprisingly strong I-Team

When asked by Jamie Carragher what Mourinho expects of a full-back, Bridge replied on Sky Sports: “Just do the opposite of what I do, I think. It was difficult because when he first came on the scene he went to 4-3-3, so for instance when I had the ball he would go through two or three options for me.

“Then he said to me that ‘if those aren’t on then just play, just do what you see’. He would have the team set-up, so he would want the full-backs to do certain things, make certain runs.

“But he played Gallas in front of me for a long time and obviously Gallas is brilliant defensively but I still thought I had more to offer going forward than him. It was up and down for me.

“I thought I was giving him what he needed sometimes, and it wasn’t, but I didn’t know what that was. I didn’t know what it was that I wasn’t doing to not be playing for the period of time that I didn’t play.

“Sometimes I thought I was harshly treated in terms of if I was dropped from the team and Gally was playing. It was like when Ash [Ashley Cole] first came I was playing so well and he was obviously going to play because they spent a lot of money on him.

“But it was against Charlton and I was playing well and if anything I would say I was one of the better players on the pitch that day. They ended up scoring and I was the first person to get dragged. So sometimes I think it’s about how he feels about you, if he thinks your not quite good enough it’s difficult. I found it really difficult.”

Owen explains his claim that Man Utd are ‘on their way back’

Michael Owen thinks Man Utd are on their way back to the summit of English football because of their recent impressive form.

Manchester United are currently 11 matches unbeaten in all competitions as they wait for football to restart, with new signing Bruno Fernandes playing a big part in the majority of that streak.

And Owen thinks Man Utd are finally getting it together after seven years without a Premier League title.

GOSSIP: Werner chooses Liverpool, £100m Man United issue

Speaking to ESPN FC, Owen said: “I think with this current stop, Manchester United might be the one team that wanted to continue playing, they were starting to get into a real good run of form.

“[Bruno] Fernandes had signed, he is a fantastic signing, [Paul] Pogba will be back soon.

“This break has been good for [Marcus] Rashford as well, he’ll be back fit.

“All of a sudden, you’re looking at Manchester United – and I haven’t been able to say this for years – but you’re looking at that squad thinking ‘wow, they’re on their way back’.

“They spent lots of money on their defence, they’ve still got one of the best goalkeepers in the world, it’s starting to look very promising for Manchester United. I haven’t been able to say that for a long time.”

Owen was one of those pundits who questioned Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s ability to get the best out his current squad but recent form has changed the former Liverpool striker’s view.

Owen added: “I must admit, right at the start [of the season] you’d have to question [Solskjaer’s appointment], because they were looking like there was no improvement.

“But just in the last month or two before the season stopped, I was starting to think he was doing the right thing and building a certain type of team that they didn’t have in the last few years.”

Neville: The return of football is being accelerated by economics

Gary Neville has stressed football would not return for months were it not for the huge economic impact of coronavirus.

The UK is on lockdown until at least May 7 but the Premier League is working on its ‘Project Restart’ to get the 2019-20 season finished, while the English Football League board and its clubs are also holding meetings on a regular basis.

Neville told Sky Sports News: “We’re hearing different things every day, but I think if this was a non-economic decision, there would be no football for months. What we’re seeing now is that people are assessing risk. What is the risk we’re willing to take to bring football back?

FEATURE: Will you join thousands at the football ever again?

“If people are really serious about putting health first, we wouldn’t be discussing football returning at this moment in time, but players themselves will want to go and play.

“Players at the lower levels will want to go and play because they’ll recognise that the alternative is bad – 1,400 players are out of contract in three months so they’ll need football to resume so their livelihoods can continue.”

Neville’s former Manchester United team-mate Rio Ferdinand has also said the football world must respect any Government decision regarding the restart of the professional game amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Former England defender Ferdinand, who works as a pundit from BT Sport, told Good Morning Britain: “We have to go by what the Government says. Whatever way they see it, and if they make a decision, we have to respect that.

“Like the isolation and lockdown period, we’ve been very respectful of that, listened to the guidelines and stayed with that and I think the football world has to be the same.

“(We need to be) governed by the powers that be, that make a decision based on the health of the nation and the players as well.”

The picture in continental Europe is mixed to say the least. The German Bundesliga is preparing to return to action next month, subject to the approval of the authorities, while individual training has been approved to resume in Spain from May 4 and group training has been given the green light in Italy from May 18.

The French and Dutch leagues have been forced to end though following directives at national government level in those countries.

Oliver Dowden, the Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) told parliament earlier this week that he is in discussions to get the Premier League “up and running as soon as possible in order to support the whole football community”.

He did add that any resumption was subject to public health guidance.

DCMS will lead meetings between medical officials from sports governing bodies and representatives of Public Health England on a weekly basis, starting this week.

The PA news agency understands the Premier League’s medical adviser Mark Gillett and the Football Association’s head of medicine Charlotte Cowie are involved in the discussions, which represent a “quickening of the pace” in talks over how top-level sport can restart.

Dale Vince, the chairman of League Two side Forest Green, told the PA news agency that June 6 was the earliest resumption date under consideration.

Newcastle willing to pay top target Pochettino £19m a year

Newcastle United have made former Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino their top target and are willing to pay him £19m a year for his services, according to reports.

The Magpies are in the process of being bought out by PCP Capital Partners, who have paid a non-refundable £17m deposit to Mike Ashley ahead of their proposed takeover.

While the deal is yet to be ratified by the Premier League – who are facing pressure from Amnesty International – Newcastle are already making plans to progress when the deal goes through.

OPINION: F365 Says: Pochettino at Newcastle would be glorious…

Reports have previously claimed in recent weeks that Max Allegri is one of the ‘leading contenders’, alongside former St James’ Park favourite Rafa Benitez, currently with Dalian Yifang in the Chinese Super League.

They will be considered alongside Lucien Favre of Borussia Dortmund, as well as the unattached former Spurs boss Pochettino.

However, Sky Sports now reports that Pochettino is seen as the ‘number one choice to be the next manager at St James’ Park’ and the potential new Newcastle owners are prepared to ‘pay him £19m a year’.

They have been ‘impressed by the rebuilding project carried out’ by Pochettino at Tottenham as he led the north London club to the final of the Champions League last campaign before being replaced this part-way through this season.

Newcastle’s prospective owners ‘believe he is the perfect candidate to help transform Newcastle into one of Europe’s top clubs over the next five years’.

Brilliant, Stinky Glitter Bombs Thwart Package Thieves

PASADENA, CA — Some S0Cal Grinches got a healthy dose of comeuppance this Christmas, thanks to a former NASA engineer who designed the ultimate revenge for porch pirates.

Naturally, it took a rocket scientist to come up with just the right formula: glitter bomb + fart bombs = sweet, sweet revenge.

But for Mark Rober, who worked on the Mars rover for the San Gabriel Valley’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, it wasn’t enough just to beat the package thieves at their own game. He had to track them with GPS and capture the explosions on camera. The results are glorious.

The repeated victim of package theft, Rober decided to do something about it after police told him not to hold out hope for an arrest even with surveillance footage of the thieves caught red-handed.

“Something needs to be done to take a stance against dishonest punks like this,” Rober said in a video posted to YouTube.

“I spent nine years devising hardware that’s currently roving around on another freaking planet,” he tells viewers. “If anyone was going to make a revenge bait package and over-engineer the crap out of it, it was going to be me.”

So Rober addressed his package to his hero (Macaulay Culkin’s character in “Home Alone”) and rigs his stinky glitter bombs with cell phones that will both track the package and record the the reactions of startled thieves.

It works so well, he lent the device out to friends, and the result is an endless reel of would-be thieves glitter- and fart-bombed inside their cars and homes. Within two days, the YouTube video garnered nearly 30 million views.

As it turns out, justice is the sound of porch pirates shouting, “What is that smell?”

Hundreds Attend Heartfelt Memorial For Slain Florida K-9

WEST PALM BEACH, FL — Hundreds of people turned out Thursday to honor a slain Florida police K-9. Cigo was killed Christmas Eve and the people of this South Florida community wanted him to know that he left his paw prints on their hearts forever.

Deputies of the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office credit Cigo’s bravery with saving two deputies and helping to take down two suspects at the Wellington Green Mall parking lot on Dec. 24. One of the suspects was wounded by deputies while Cigo passed away at an animal hospital.

“I think it’s also important for us to remember that we had two deputies in armed combat,” said Sheriff Ric Bradshaw at the outset of the service. “If it hadn’t been for Cigo doing his job, we might have had two deputies killed. That’s why we’re here today.”

Watch the heartfelt memorial below at the Coral Sky Amphitheater.

“Cigo went out a hero. He did his job to save lives,” declared Lt. Mike Kletzky, commander of the K-9 unit with the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office. “Although he is gone, he will never be forgotten.”

New England Journal of Medicine.

Amélie PelletierSource : “Urinary-Cell mRNA Profile and Acute Cellular Rejection in Kidney Allografts“ – N Engl J Med 2013; 369:20-31, DOI: 10.1056/NEJMoa1215555 (

Violaine Badie avec RelaxnewsClick Here: Maori All Blacks Store
