Mateo Kovacic says Chelsea need to “wake up” if they are to secure Champions League qualification, after slipping to a 2-0 home defeat to Manchester United.

Frank Lampard’s side have now lost to United on three occasions this season, and the latest sees them now just one point clear of the chasing pack in fourth.

And Kovacic admits that Chelsea need to raise their game after a frustrating evening at Stamford Bridge.

He said: “We need to improve a lot because we have tough games ahead of us and we have to be focused.

“We have to train hard every day, to prepare our games better and try to avoid our mistakes because we are making too many mistakes in these kind of matches and you get punished.

“We have a good week ahead of us to prepare for Tottenham and to play a good match. We know this match means a lot for us because Tottenham are close behind us so we need to prepare ourselves quite a lot to win this game at home.

“We are still fourth so we are still in a good position but we need to wake up because they are coming from behind. We need to play these next games like we were playing in the beginning of the season and change some things as well, obviously.

“We played well in the beginning but it’s always the same against United – we play good, we create chances, we don’t score and then they score from one opportunity.

“We don’t have the three points and that’s the most important thing. It was a good game from us, we played well, like we have for more or less the whole season, but we made some silly mistakes and we lost the points.

 

 

“We are still a very young team and we need to improve a lot. Now we will see if we are a great team because we have some tough matches to fight for the fourth position and we need to show ourselves.”

Chelsea have a derby date with Tottenham on Saturday, before attention then turns to the first leg of their Champions League last-16 encounter with Bayern Munich.

Gary Neville thinks Manchester United should stop using Paul Pogba’s agent Mino Raiola in any future deals.

Pogba has barely played this season, making six starts in all competitions, as Man Utd have had to struggle with their best player.

The France international has been heavily linked with moves to Juventus and Real Madrid over the last year, while Raiola has hinted in the past that he wants Pogba to leave Old Trafford.

Ahead of Man Utd’s 2-0 victory over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, Solskjaer said: “Paul is our player and not Mino’s. I haven’t sat down and told Paul to tell his agent what to say. I’ve not spoken to Mino, that’s for sure.”

To which Raiola responded on social media, he replied: “Paul is not mine and for sure not Solskjaer’s property, Paul is Paul Pogba’s.

“You cannot own a human being already for a long time in the UK or anywhere else. I hope Solskjaer do [sic] not want to suggest that Paul is his prisoner.”

 

And Neville reckons that Man Utd have to take a strong stance on Raiola and not be “played” by the agent.

“It will end with Paul Pogba leaving Manchester United. What needs to happen is the club taking a stance on that agent. That agent has messed them around now for years with Pogba and other players.

“Why they allow themselves to be played by him I’ll never know. He’s a serious thorn in the side for them. Manchester United should just stand strong and say if you’re represented by him we won’t deal with you.

“He’s publicly embarrassed them and the club all the time. He’s obviously sticking up for his player and defending him but I don’t think what Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said was an aggressive move.

“He was just saying he is Manchester United’s player, they paid £90million for him and they want him to stay at the club and play well.

“Raiola wants to create a situation, he wants Pogba out of the club and wants his pay off him. He’ll continue to make money, he’s the golden egg for Mino Raiola.”

 

Bruno Fernandes insisted that Manchester United can “do much better with the ball” after they battled to a 2-0 win over Chelsea on Monday night.

Headers from Anthony Martial and Harry Maguire – who Frank Lampard insists should have seeen red – were enough for the Red Devils on the night, and Fernandes himself came close with a rasping free-kick that struck the post in an excellent individual performance.

But United finished with just 39% possession, and were rescued by VAR on a couple of occasions, as Chelsea twice had goals disallowed.

And Fernandes was not completely satisfied with the visitors’ performance, as he told Sky Sports post-match: “I’m really happy. It’s a difficult game against Chelsea.

“They are a great team and we needed to win to keep fourth [place in reach].

“I think we can do much better with the ball but it was a good game against a good team. They are really good with the ball but we played our game and won.”

 

 

The January signing went on to express how happy he is to be lining up for the “biggest club in England” after spending the last three years of his career in the Primeira Liga with Sporting.

The France international looks set to leave Old Trafford in the summer, and the game against the Blues will show how the club can move on without him

Manchester United take on Chelsea on Monday evening with the chance to show how the team might shape up next season, with Paul Pogba still out of the side and looking nailed on to depart this summer.

The 26-year-old midfielder remains in rehabilitation after electing to have ankle surgery over the winter, and there is no indication when he will be fit enough to return to action.

Pogba would like to be available for the tail-end of the campaign in order to get back to match fitness ahead of Euro 2020. However, United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has effectively refused to confirm if the player will feature for United again, with no return date on the horizon.

More teams

The Norwegian was one of the few figures at United happy to consider the sale of Pogba last summer, with the caveat that any funds raised would be used to strengthen the squad.

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez’s reluctance to give Zinedine Zidane his main midfield target, however, meant that Pogba was forced to stay put at Old Trafford for at least another campaign.

Executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward is now in agreement with Solskjaer. The club are willing to accept a bid of around £130 million ($170m) for the player in order to bring his underwhelming second spell at the club to an end.

There may be an element of pragmatism involved from Woodward. With the path to the Champions League unclear, both with the club’s poor form and the fallout from Manchester City’s proposed two-year European ban, there is little certainty that United will take part in the continent’s most important and lucrative competition next season.

Winning the Europa League would be a way in through the back door, but a knockout competition cannot be relied upon.

Should United fail in their qualification pursuit then their finances will take a real hit. Some players may be sold in order to cut costs. A permanent deal for Chris Smalling will likely be agreed with Roma, Alexis Sanchez will again be offered up to anyone willing to take him, and other players may take the opportunity to move on.

If United do not have their usual financial might, then the sale of Pogba will allow United to raise funds to cover any underlying shortages. Shifting Pogba’s hefty wages off the salary costs will help as well.

Another Frenchman, Anthony Martial, may be considering his future as Solskjaer does not trust him to lead the line in the absence of Marcus Rashford. That Odion Ighalo was brought in as an alternative indicates that above all Solskjaer wants commitment on the pitch. Martial’s inconsistency does not offer that. 

There is also speculation that David de Gea might be similarly sacrificed, with his form still well below his very best, and a ready-made replacement Dean Henderson impressing at Sheffield United. For now, there is no reason to believe this is more than a possibility than an intended course of action for the club and the player.

United intend to bring Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish to the club this summer, in a move that does not necessarily depend on Pogba’s exit. Indeed, United are likely to target another striker when Ighalo leaves at the end of his brief loan spell. 

With Ighalo the kind of striker United are looking for – someone to lead the line and run the channels – Chelsea may be a chance to see how the club will attempt to play going forward.

Nemanja Matic’s suspension means that United will likely use Bruno Fernandes in midfield with Fred and Andreas Pereira, with Martial, Ighalo and Daniel James a possible front three.

Against Chelsea, if the players are well-rested following the winter break, at their best and able to follow their usual counterattacking strategy, a win is possible. Three points would also keep them in touch of fifth place, which could prove to be enough for Champions League football next season.

Shorn of Pogba, with one player to replace his creativity and another to offer superior effort through the middle, there are set to be hints of next season’s approach.

The club are preparing for life without Pogba and are putting the pieces in place – a new striker, a new midfielder and probably Grealish – for next season. Their visit to Stamford Bridge could demonstrate vague signs of a new and more constructive way forward.

The MLS expansion side is set to announce a major move, but talk is already turning towards what’s next for David Beckham’s club

Inter Miami has brought in a star in Rodolfo Pizarro, who joined his new teammates for the first time in training on Friday. However, the big question remains who will join him in the coming weeks.

The club is nearing an announcement confirming the signing of the Mexican international, who is set to join the first-year club in a reported $12 million move for Monterrey. The 25-year-old No. 10 arrived in Miami on Thursday night and underwent a medical, with an announcement expected in the coming days as contract talks are finalized.

However, with Pizarro now involved, the focus now turns towards what Inter Miami will do with its third and final Designated Player spot. The club has already brought in Matias Pellegrini, a 19-year-old Argentinian winger, with one spot before using their second to bring in their star No. 10 in Pizarro.

Paul McDonough, the team’s sporting director, admitted that the club isn’t finished, although they will do things on their own terms. The club has been linked to a number of big stars this year, including Edinson Cavani, Luis Suarez and David Silva, and Inter Miami does have until May 7 to complete a deal for a third and final DP.

McDonough says that the focus is on bringing in a “No. 9 or a two-way midfielder” with that spot, but the club is currently looking for the right fit rather than name recognition.

“With the city of Miami, with the ownership group we have, the ambition, a lot of players want to come here…we’re going through the process of finding out what’s legitimate, what’s not really achievable, because there are some prices that are just not achievable for MLS teams now,” he said, according to the Miami Herald. “The ownership group could do it if they wanted to, but I don’t think it’s responsible for us to open up a blank checkbook and write checks just because an experienced player wants it.

“I can go get a player that has a resale value that can help us win championships. I think that’s more responsible. If it is a veteran player that can help us win and the price is within reason, then that’s ok. We’ll explore that.”

Pizarro offers Miami the best of both worlds. At 25 years old, the Mexican star is heading into his prime years, where he figured to be a key part of Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino’s national team setup. The midfielder emerged as a key figure for El Tri in 2018, helping guide Mexico to a Gold Cup on the heels of a standout campaign with Monterrey.

It was McDonough’s relationship with Martino that helped pave the way for the signing. McDonough was one of the people responsible for bringing Martino to Atlanta for the club’s expansion season, and the current Mexico boss led Atlanta to an MLS Cup in his second year in charge. 

Miami has similar lofty aims and another South American coach with the pedigree to achieve them. Diego Alonso is a two-time Concacaf Champions League winner with his second triumph coming with Pizarro as a key figure at Monterrey.

“He’s a key part for [national team coach] Tata Martino with Mexico,” McDonough said. “I spoke with him about him a lot. Diego obviously knows him really, really well. We think his flexibility to play any of the four spots up front, his work rate, his experience, his age. The fact that he’s won championships in a very, very difficult league in Mexico and he’s played against top European teams in the World Club Championships. It’s just something that really made sense for us to win now.”

He added: “Diego was really, really happy, had a big smile on his face. Our players were really excited about it, waiting, watching in the media. They were kind of wondering when he was going to show up. It was really important for them, too, because they know what kind of player he is.”

While Pizarro does boast that star power, he also has the highly-coveted resale value. McDonough’s initial signings with Atlanta were less focused on big names and more on potential growth, with the club eventually selling star midfielder Miguel Almiron to Newcastle for a massive fee.

Pizarro has made his intentions known, saying that he sees MLS as a better stepping stone to Europe than Liga MX, and the move could be a win-win for both parties if Pizarro shines bright enough to draw overseas interest.

“I think it’s a bit closer, being there first and then later [in Europe],” he said. “It’s a lot easier from there [in MLS] to Europe.

“[Beckham] spoke to me on video-calls, he told me that he wanted me to come, and from when I spoke to him on the calls it influenced my decision [to come] a lot.

Added McDonough: “I think Pizarro is a star. Maybe not a global star, but in this region, he’s 25 years old, played for the Mexican national team. He’s won, and I would consider Pizarro a star. I understand we’re linked to a lot of players. But my stance has always been I’ll do what I think is right for the team to win. I’m not going to go sign a veteran player just to fill out a quota that he’s a global superstar. If that’s a player that can help us win and we can do it. If not, then it doesn’t make sense. We’re coming to win.”

Du 14 au 18 janvier prochain, une nouvelle édition du festival de l’Alpe d’Huez se penchera sur le meilleur de la comédie. Gad Elmaleh présidera le jury et l’on connaît désormais qui l’entourera: Sylvie Testud, Ana Girardot, Manu Payet et Max Boublil.

Ce sont des habitués qui composeront le jury du prochain festival de l’Alpe d’Huez, qui se déroulera du 14 au 18 janvier 2015. On savait déjà que Gad Elmaleh en serait le président. L’organisation du festival vient de révéler les noms des jurés qui seraient à ses côtés pour récompenser les comédies qui feront le bonheur des spectateurs l’année à venir: Sylvie Testud, Ana Girardot, Manu Payet et Max Boublil. Tous sont déjà venus ou ont déjà été présents dans des films en compétition.

Manu Payet est déjà venu l’an dernier pour présenter son premier film en tant que réalisateur, Situation amoureuse c’est compliqué. Il en était reparti avec le Grand Prix. En 2009, il était également à l’Alpe pour défendre Coco, réalisé par Gad Elmaleh. Manu Payet jouait également dans Radiostars, vainqueur en 2012, au côté de Ana Girardot qui elle aussi sera membre du jury en janvier.

L’autre présence féminine du jury 2015 sera assurée par Sylvie Testud qui était à l’affiche de Une chanson pour ma mère, en compétition en 2012. Max Boublil complètera le jury. L’an dernier, il était venu présenter Prêt à tout et avait littéralement électrisé le public du palais des congrès de l’Alpe d’Huez lors de la projection.

Valérie Trierweiler assure la promotion à l’étranger de son livre Merci pour ce moment. À ce titre, l’ancienne première dame a accordé à la BBC une interview qui risque d’énerver l’Elysée. Mais ça, c’était avant la parution des photos de François Hollande et Julie Gayet vendredi matin. On ne sait pas comment elle a ressenti l’événement, mais ses représailles pourraient être cataclysmiques.

Depuis ce matin, l’Elysée doit être sur les dents suite à la publication des premières photos de François Hollande et Julie Gayet, surpris dans l’enceinte du palais présidentiel. Le week-end s’annonce donc tendu et chargé pour les responsables de la communication d’autant que lundi la BBC va diffuser une interview qui risque de faire des ravages.

Dans le talk show Newsknight, Kirsty Wark reçoit en effet Valérie Trierweiler, en pleine promo de son livre Merci pour ce moment. Selon les premiers échos qui ressortent de l’entretien et rapportés par L’Express, deux passages devraient agacer l’Elysée. Dans un premier temps, celui où Valérie Trierweiler parle de son séjour à l’hôpital dans les jours qui ont suivi la révélation de la liaison entre François Hollande et Julie Gayet. Au cours de la discussion, la journaliste britannique s’étonne qu’un président de la République «drogue» sa femme pour la faire taire (référence au fait que François Hollande aurait demandé aux médecins de sur doser ses tranquillisants pour l’empêcher de l’accompagner à Tulle).

Mais le passage le plus délicat concerne celui des SMS que François Hollande a envoyés à sa compagne. Valérie Trierweiler affirme qu’elle les a tous conservés et surtout qu’elle a la preuve que le président de la République qualifie les pauvres de «sans-dents». L’expression avait fait polémique et obligé François Hollande à réagir publiquement.

L’interview à la BBC a été enregistrée avant la parution des photos de François Hollande avec Julie Gayet. En les découvrant, Valérie Trierweiler pourrait bien décider de mettre ses menaces à exécution en révélant les fameux messages sur les sans-dents. C’est une véritable bombe à retardement qu’elle possède entre les mains et l’expérience a montré qu’elle sait appuyer sur le bouton quand elle en a envie.

Marc Canter, l’auteur de la biographie des Guns’n Roses Reckless Road, l’a annoncé lui-même: un biopic va voir le jour. Comme le livre, il s’intéressera aux débuts du groupe et à la genèse du célèbre album Appetite for destruction.

Alors que Slash, Axl Rose et tous les membres du groupe sont séparés et ne se parlent plus, il faudra compter sur le cinéma pour réunir les cinq membres originaux des Guns’n Roses. Un biopic est en effet en préparation et mettra en scène le célèbre groupe à ses débuts.

Marc Canter, auteur de la biographie Reckless Road dont sera adapté le film, a annoncé la nouvelle sur le site MyGNRForum. Il a affirmé qu’il était impliqué dans le projet et qu’il travaillait en étroite collaboration avec les membres du groupe. Il a tenu ainsi à rassurer les fans des Guns qui s’inquiètent, comme souvent avec les biopics, que la vérité soit travestie. «Depuis que je suis impliqué sur le projet, je sais que le dialogue avec le groupe a été précieux et nécessaire pour beaucoup de choses qui se sont mises en place» a déclaré Marc Canter avant d’ajouter: «J’ai mon mot à dire sur le scénario en cours d’élaboration. Jusqu’ici, il a l’air génial». Il a tenu également à préciser: «Rassurez-vous, ce n’est pas moi qui le réalise. L’ouvrage sera adapté en film par des gens talentueux qui sauront le faire proprement. Il n’y aura pas de raccourcis, tout sera détaillé!».

Le livre Reckless Road raconte les débuts des Guns’n Roses et la création de l’album Appetite for destructionqui a lancé leur carrière grâce à des tubes comme Sweet Child O’Mine et Paradise City. En 2012, le batteur du groupe Matt Sorum avait confié qu’un film était déjà en cours de production et qu’il avait été approché pour participer à l’écriture du scénario. «Si vous regardez les films sur le rock’n’roll, ça n’est jamais vraiment réussi… avait-il alors expliqué. La grande différence avec les Guns N’ Roses, c’est que nous étions un vrai groupe de rock underground, crado, punk rock et avec une vraie âme. L’énergie du groupe venait vraiment d’ailleurs et nous nous sommes différenciés des autres. Il y aurait moyen de faire d’excellentes choses au cinéma ». Le projet de l’époque n’a jamais vu le jour, mais on ne demande qu’à croire le musicien.

C’est demain soir que l’on saura qui de Brian Joubert, Rayane Bensetti et Nathalie Péchalat remportera la cinquième saison de Danse avec les stars. La seule femme encore en lice s’est confiée auprès de nos confrères de Metronews.

L’aventure Danse avec les Stars aura été bien mouvementée pour Nathalie Péchalat. Elle aura notamment été marquée par un changement de partenaire qui aura fait couler beaucoup d’encre. Si pour l’heure, la patineuse s’était contentée d’un tweet laconique («Grégoire Lyonnet a pris sa décision pour des raisons personnelles, respectons-la et allons de l’avant. Soutien dans cette débâcle médiatique», avait-elle écrit sur le réseau social), elle en a dit plus aujourd’hui dans Metronews.

«Ça fait flipper de se faire ‘quitter’, un peu comme dans la vraie vie, explique-t-elle. Je me suis faite quitter, on peut le dire. Après, il est libre. Il a ses raisons, il a pris sa décision et je voulais qu’il soit bien avec lui-même. Et pas que quelqu’un le pousse à faire quoi que ce soit. Il m’a dit que c’était sa décision, et qu’il se sentait bien comme ça. Moi, j’avais juste à l’accepter. Donc oui, j’ai été surprise, triste aussi. Au début j’avais peur que ça vienne de moi, il a fallu se remettre en question. Finalement dès que Christophe (Licata) est arrivé, on s’est remis au boulot, parce que cette émission reste une course contre la montre».

Inévitablement, Nathalie Péchalat a aussi eu droit à son incontournable question sur son compagnon depuis six mois : Jean Dujardin. «J’en ai déjà parlé plusieurs fois et je le redis: je viens du milieu du sport, où on n’étale pas sa vie privée en dehors des lieux d’entraînement et des compétitions, a-t-elle souligné. Bien sûr, nous sommes des êtres humains. On a des émotions, des sensations, on peut en parler. De là à étaler sa vie privée… C’est un truc que je n’arrive pas à comprendre. (…) Peut-être que ça se passe comme ça dans le showbiz. Mais moi je n’aime pas trop ça».

Kim Jong Un vient-il de se venger d’Hollywood? Cinq longs métrages et des passeports de stars ont été dérobés par des pirates informatiques. Les studios Sony soupçonnent la Corée du Nord.

Hollywood vient de subir une attaque digne d’un blockbuster. L’un des studios majeurs de la cité des anges, Sony, a été victime d’un vol historique de données informatiques. Tout a débuté le 24 novembre dernier lorsque des employés de la marque nippo-américaine allument leurs ordinateurs. Ils sont accueillis par l’image d’un squelette suivie de l’indication suivante: « Piraté par #GOP ». Un second message a alors suivi, « nous vous avons déjà mis en garde, et ce n’est que le début. Nous avons obtenu toutes vos données internes dont des secrets ». Panique à bord! Sony renvoie tous ses employés chez eux et fait un état des lieux. Le résultat est terrifiant. Cinq longs métrages importants ont été dérobés en même temps que les mots de passe de nombreux employés. Des copies de passeports de stars sont également tombées dans l’escarcelle des pirates.

Le site arstehnica, spécialisé dans la sécurité informatique, assure que trois comédiens ont particulièrement été touchés par le vol des copies de leurs pièces d’identité: Angelina Jolie, Cameron Diaz et Jonah Hill. Quant aux films dérobés, ils ont immédiatement été mis en ligne sur des plateformes de téléchargement afin de pousser le plus grand nombre d’internautes à se les approprier illégalement. Parmi ces cinq œuvres, une seule est d’ores et déjà sortie en salles. Il s’agit du film Fury dans lequel joue Brad Pitt. Les quatre autres objets du vol n’ont pas encore été diffusés au cinéma. Il s’agit de Mr Turner avec Timothy Spall (Sweeney Todd), To Write Love on Her Arms avec Kat Dennings (Thor), Annie avec Jamie Foxx et finalement Still Alice avec Kristen Stewart et Julianne Moore. Leurs sorties sont prévues entre le 3 décembre 2014 et le 25 février 2015.

Sony vient donc de prendre un bon coup de massue sur la tête. Le studio enquête désormais en compagnie du gouvernement américain pour retrouver les auteurs du méfait. Car le groupe GOP, qui a signé l’attaque, était jusqu’à présent inconnu. Et selon les informations de sites spécialisés, comme le très célèbre Re/Code, Sony soupçonne fortement la Corée du Nord d’être à l’origine de ce pillage organisé. La dernière trace des pirates a d’ailleurs été détectée en Chine, non loin du pays de Kim Jong Un. Mais pour quelle raison la Corée du Nord voudrait-elle s’en prendre à Hollywood de la sorte? Pour un film, tout simplement.

Le 18 février prochain, le studio Sony sortira en effet en salle le film The Interview. Avec James Franco et Seth Rogen dans les rôles principaux, l’œuvre racontera le parcours de deux journalistes américains auxquels leur gouvernement demande d’aller assassiner le leader nord-coréen. Coup de tonnerre chez les voisins nordiques de la Corée du Sud, ce film ne doit pas voir le jour. Le pays a donc officiellement menacé Sony de « représailles impitoyables » en cas de diffusion de l’œuvre qu’elle considère comme « un acte de guerre et de terrorisme absolument intolérable ». A l’époque, la menace avait beaucoup fait rire les deux protagonistes du film. Pas certain qu’ils soient encore de si bonne humeur aujourd’hui. La piste Kim Jong Un n’a cependant pas encore été officiellement confirmée mais Sony pense avoir trouvé son coupable. Kim Jong Un, ou comment faire parler de soi.
