Actor and far-left activist Robert De Niro can be heard exploding on his former personal assistant, Graham Chase Robinson, threatening her and warning she was “fucking history,” leaked voicemail messages reveal.

In the voicemail leaked by Robinson to entertainment outlet TMZ, De Niro is heard threatening her and calling her a “spoilt brat.”

“You f***ing don’t answer my calls? How dare you. You’re about to be fired. You’re fucking history,” he shouted. “Don’t be angry with me ’cause I’m pissed off ’cause I didn’t get a simple thing that I need right now here in California, where I’m here less than 24 hours, you gotta be fucking kidding me, you spoilt brat!”

The message forms part of the evidence being drawn up by Robinson, who filed a lawsuit in a New York federal court this week against De Niro, alleging he engaged in gender discrimination, harassment, workplace retaliation, verbal abuse, and even unwanted physical conduct.

In her complaint, Robinson claims De Niro repeatedly unloaded aggressive rants against her and at least one other female business partner, which included calling her a “bitch” and a “brat” while calling another woman a “cunt.”

“Ms. Robinson’s position became increasingly intolerable, and over the years she announced her intent to resign multiple times,” the lawsuit reads. “De Niro responded with both a carrot and a stick – he made promises to induce to her stay and threatened repercussions if she left.”

“De Niro also stood idly by while his friend slapped Ms. Robinson on her buttocks,” it continues. “He does not accept the idea that men should treat women as equals. He does not care that gender discrimination in the workplace violates the law. Ms. Robinson is a casualty of this attitude.”

The lawsuit is also a retaliation against De Niro, who filed his own $6 million lawsuit against Robinson back in August over her conduct as vice president of production and finance of his company Canal Productions.

In his complaint, De Niro alleges she misused corporate credit cards and binge-watched Netflix series while on the job, claims Robinson says have permanently damaged her reputation.

“The results have been devasting to Ms. Robinson. Her reputation and her career have been destroyed,” the suit states.

Although such claims remain untested in a court of law, De Niro has become infamous for his foul mouth and aggressive attitude. His most regular target is President Donald Trump, who he has denounced as a “mean-spirited, soulless, amoral, abusive con-artist son of a bitch,” while also expressing a desire to “punch him in the face.”

ROME — Italy’s economy is sick and the governing coalition can’t agree on the cure — among themselves or with Brussels.

The European Commission said last week that the government’s flagship measures — an early retirement scheme and a citizens’ income (a monthly allowance for certain jobseekers) — failed to trigger the growth the League-5Stars coalition had envisaged. To make matters worse, the forecast from Brussels was that the deficit is growing, and in 2020 it will smash through the 3 percent deficit-to-GDP ceiling imposed by EU rules, reaching 3.5 percent.

Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte said the forecast shows the “prejudiced attitude” of Brussels. His finance minister, Giovanni Tria, shrugged off Brussels’ concerns and the two ruling parties aren’t planning on backtracking on their plans.

As is often the case, the two uneasy government partners disagree on what’s important.

The League is pushing for a flat tax that would cost the state up to €60 billion in lost revenue, according to the Treasury’s own calculations (the League says the figure is closer to €13 billion). The 5Stars, led by Luigi Di Maio, are unconvinced a flat tax is a priority because it would benefit wealthier citizens over poor ones. Their focus is on the introduction of a €9 minimum hourly salary and providing more rights to people who deliver food by bike (for firms such as Uber Eats and Deliveroo).

Unsurprisingly, both ideas are disliked by their government partner, which thinks they would further restrict the job market.

Yet while European Economic and Financial Affairs Commissioner Pierre Moscovici said it’s time for Rome to “change route,” the government is confident that after the upcoming European election, what will change is the political equilibrium across the bloc and they’ll be let off the hook.

“[Italy] is on the right track and the EU can give us a hand if it stops obsessing over public debt. The priority should be tackling unemployment,” said Rosa D’Amato, a 5Stars MEP.

Speaking on a TV talk show on Wednesday, Deputy Prime Minister and League leader Matteo Salvini said “the people of France, Germany, Italy will decide the way forward through their vote, not the Brussels bureaucrats.”

“An expansive economic policy is necessary for the country,” said Marco Campomenosi, a League European election candidate who doesn’t think Italy’s public debt is an issue for the rest of the eurozone. “Italians own most of their public debt. Germans shouldn’t worry, they won’t be asked to repay it.”

But if Italy’s leaders think the next Commission will accept Rome’s rule-breaking, they could be mistaken. “They must have failed to realize Pierre [Moscovici] is the most dovish of commissioners,” said Roberto Gualtieri, an MEP and member of Italy’s Democratic Party, suggesting Rome’s position will only get more difficult.

Others, like former Prime Minister Mario Monti and economist Carlo Cottarelli, reckon the financial markets are far more important to Italy’s future than the Commission.

Lorenzo Codogno, founder of LC Macro Advisors and former director general of the Italian Treasury, has an even more dramatic take: “We’re heading towards a potential default scenario; we can’t even rule out an exit from the eurozone.”

While that may be overly pessimistic, it’s true that Italy has to refinance its skyrocketing public debt by €84.5 billion this year, and international investors are shying away.

“This government has political, not economic, objectives, so it’s hard to really achieve anything,” said Codogno.

Whatever the populists’ objectives may be, it’s working.

According to a survey by Ipsos, the League-5Star government has the backing of 50 percent of Italians and the two ruling parties combined are on course to win more than 54 percent of the votes in the upcoming European election.

“I voted for the Communist Party then the Democratic Party for my entire life but they’ve lost all credibility,” said Massimo Filippi, a newly retired 61-year-old plumber.

Filippi said he and his family of five all voted for the 5Stars in last year’s general election, but will vote for Salvini later this month as a way to thank him for the early retirement scheme.

Beyond the cheerful few (roughly 124,000 Italians have applied to retire early and about 700,000 will receive the citizens’ income — out of a population of around 60 million), more than half of Italians (55.4 percent) believe the country’s economy has deteriorated during the past year. And 48.4 percent believe it will worsen further in the next 12 months, according to a Censis report.

The feeling is a recurring one in Italy. Since the global financial crisis of 2008, the country has faced two recessions (the second one lasting from 2012 to 2014), and governments of both the left and right failed to significantly reboot the economy. During the past decade, Italy’s gross domestic product (GDP) grew by more than 1 percent only twice, in 2010 and in 2016.

“Maybe this explains why the economy isn’t impacting the government’s popularity: People don’t vote based on economic performance,” said Maria Elena, a 32-year-old unemployed accountant from Naples who didn’t want to give her last name because she unsuccessfully applied for the citizens’ income. “The only thing that really has the potential to collapse the government is raising taxes.”

Last year, the government envisaged a value-added tax hike in 2020 to counter the effects on deficit levels of a worse-than-expected economic performance and their extra spending.

But the parties know how unpopular such a tax hike would be and have scrapped the idea — a rare issue on which Di Maio and Salvini agree.

Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta has challenged his players to rise above the heated atmosphere expected to greet the Gunners when they take on Olympiacos on Thursday.

Arteta will be keen for his side to put themselves into a strong position to continue their Europa League quest with victory in the opening leg of their round of 32 clash against the Greek champions-elect in Athens.

The sold-out Karaiskakis Stadium is often a difficult place for opposing players and, with Arsenal’s side containing a number of youngsters, the evening will be a stern test of their resolve.

Arteta is confident his younger players can handle it and wants to see the same reaction regardless of their experience to date.

“It is part of the process,” he said.

“You don’t know until you expose them. They can have the best intention but they need to go to a stadium like here and when they make a mistake or a bad decision, have the courage to try again and play again.

“And I want to see that in my players, whether they are 17 or 35. That’s what I expect from them. If they keep trying, they have my full support.

“If they hide after that, I don’t like it. But what I’ve seen up to now, every time they play on that field they are responding really, really well. That’s what I am hoping and I am sure they will do it tomorrow.”

While squad rotation in the Europa League has been the order of the day under previous managers Arsene Wenger and Unai Emery, Arteta suggested he make take a different approach.

Arsenal lost to London rivals Chelsea in the final last year and may need to win the competition this time around to return to the Champions League, given they currently sit 10th in the Premier League.

 

 

Asked about the intensity of playing Premier League and Europa League games and a potential need to rest players, Arteta added: “That’s why we have a big squad and we can rotate the players. But physically in Europe, the game won’t be any more demanding than in the Premier League, that’s for sure.

“If they have to do that every three days, it can be an issue but as well we have to try to adapt and choose the players that can perform in each game.

“We had a break of 15 days. We played just one game so tomorrow I’m going to send out a team that I think is the best to play. The rest of the game will take care of itself.

“We cannot control everything. Sometimes you think about resting somebody and in training he gets a little issue or he gets sick.

“So tomorrow we will send out a team that we think is the best to beat Olympiacos and the rest of the teams after that will take care of themselves.”

It remains to be seen if Matteo Guendouzi will be involved having been dropped for Sunday’s 4-0 win over Newcastle.

Reports suggested the midfielder had fallen out with Arteta during the recent training camp in Dubai, with the head coach adding: “I just do my team selection and the squad in regards to how they train, how they play, how they behave.

“Every week it will be different. One week it will be one reason, one week it will be another reason.”

Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo has backed Arsene Wenger’s proposals to change VAR.

The technology will be used for the first time in the Europa League this season on Thursday, with Wolves hosting Espanyol in the last 32.

Former Arsenal manager Wenger’s plan would mean a player would be deemed onside if any part of their body is level or behind the last defender.

Football’s rulemakers, the International Football Association Board, meets next weekend and has ruled out making changes but Nuno agrees with Wenger’s call.

He said: “Everybody that is outside the decision-making of the law can give opinions and clearly the opinions are to improve, to make things better for everybody. So if Arsene Wenger said that I support it.

“The best people to judge and to make decisions are implicated. I truly respect them but like I say, make it better for everybody so that does not become an issue.

“VAR has names behind them, there are referees judging those decisions so every time we say ‘VAR’ we must start doing ‘Who is doing VAR’, more public. If it improves – good.

“It’s part of us. It is here to stay, the only thing I hope for is an improvement. To be more clear to everyone, especially for the players because sometimes they are on the pitch and they don’t understand the decision.

“That takes away the concentration, takes away the focus – the game delays for too much time.”

Wolves were denied a win by VAR in Friday’s 0-0 draw with Leicester after Willy Boly’s header was disallowed because Pedro Neto was marginally offside.

They now turn their attention to Espanyol who are bottom of LaLiga – having finished seventh last season – after winning just four times.

They topped Group H with 11 points and have played 39 games this term having started their campaign with the qualifiers in July, like Wolves.

Thursday’s clash will be Wolves’ 43rd game of the season and Conor Coady believes the squad are proving any doubters wrong.

“It’s brilliant, any player will tell you they want to play than train. It’s something every player wants,” he said, with just Ruben Vinagre missing for Thursday’s game with a hamstring injury.

“It’s what you work for. A lot of people wanted to see us and say ‘they are finding it tough’ but we wanted to embrace it and show to ourselves and our supporters we could do it.”

Gala: Vous avez de nombreux enfants, comment faites-vous pour rester un père, mais aussi un grand-père et arrière grand-père présent et attentif?

Mick Jagger: N’ayez crainte, je ne les abandonnerai pas dès l’âge de cinq ans en pleine forêt – quoi que cela pourrait peut-être les aider à développer leur indépendance! Avoir une enfance paisible et solide est primordial dans la vie, c’est la raison pour laquelle j’ai toujours tout fait pour être proche de mes enfants. Et être disponible au maximum de mes possibilités.

Gala: Est-ce que vos parents vous ont soutenu dans votre carrière?

M.J.: Ils ne voulaient pas que je sois dans le show-business. Pour eux, cela n’a jamais été une profession. Tout a changé le jour où j’ai décidé d’abandonner la fac pour chanter du rock’n’roll non plus seulement le week-end, mais chaque jour.

Gala: Comment voyez-vous votre avenir?

M.J.: Je continue à faire ce que j’aime. Ma tournée se poursuit jusqu’à l’automne. Je ne sais pas encore à quel moment je déciderai de m’arrêter mais, pour le moment, je ne veux pas entendre parler de retraite!

Gala: Vous avez fêté vos soixante-et-onze ans. Quel est votre secret pour garder une telle forme?

M.J.: Aucun. J’essaie simplement de conserver la ligne et je fais régulièrement des exercices physiques. De toute façon je n’attache aucune importance à mon âge. C’est sans doute la raison pour laquelle je ne suis jamais malheureux au moment de mon anniversaire. Au contraire, je suis toujours prêt à fêter ça!

Gala: Vous êtes aujourd’hui l’un des artistes les plus célèbres dans le monde. A vos débuts, qui a cru en vous, qui vous a aidé?

M.J.: Personne! C’est plutôt l’inverse qui s’est passé.

Gala: Avec une vie aussi riche, que ce soit sur le plan professionnel comme personnel, avez-vous malgré tout quelque regret?

M.J.: Non. J’essaie de ne pas penser à cela et de me concentrer uniquement sur ma personne. Je crois de toute façon que tout ce qu’on traverse dans la vie a un sens.

Patrice Laffont se lâche. Dans une interview donnée à Télé Loisirs, l’ancien présentateur de l’émission Pyramide a vertement critiqué Pépita. Pour lui, sa jeune collègue de l’époque était «mauvaise comme tout».

Jeu mythique de la télévision française dans les années 1990, Pyramide reste encore dans toutes les mémoires des nostalgiques. A l’occasion d’une interview accordée à Télé Loisirs, Patrice Laffont, ancien présentateur du programme de divertissement, a descendu en flèche son ex-collègue Pépita. «Pépita ne devait rien faire dans l’émission à part remettre les boîtes de jeu, c’est-à-dire les potiches de l’époque», explique le comédien de 73 ans. Comme présentation, difficile de faire pire. Pourtant, Patrice Laffont reconnaît avoir cru en la jolie brune.

Au début. «J’ai demandé à ce qu’on lui mette un micro parce que je pensais qu’elle avait un potentiel. La grande vedette de Pyramide à cette époque, c’était elle. Les gens l’adoraient», avoue-t-il sincèrement. Une accalmie de courte durée. Au cours de l’entretien, le père de la comédienne Axelle Laffont monte au créneau quant au fait que Pépita se soit vue confier les reines de l’émission Légal, pas légal, un jeu sur les connaissances juridiques en 2000. «Elle est l’exemple de personne qui n’avait pas un grand rôle et à qui on a donné un grand rôle en lui donnant une émission à présenter. Elle a été mauvaise comme tout! Ce n’était pas son parcours», déplore ce dernier. Pour l’instant, Pépita n’a pas réagi à ces déclarations incendiaires.

Absent des écrans depuis de nombreuses années, Pyramide a fait son retour sur France 2 cet été. Une nouvelle version du célèbre jeu orchestrée par Olivier Minne, aux côtés de Bruno Guillon, Carinne Teyssandier, Elodie Gossuin et Damien Thévenot. Une équipe de choc, à priori sans potiche.

Hier, le Conseil des droits de l’homme de l’ONU a mis en place une commission d’enquête sur les violations des lois humanitaires dans les opérations militaires à Gaza et dans les territoires occupés. Parmi les trois personnes en charge du dossier figure une certaine Amal Alamuddin – la fiancée de George Clooney. Vous doutiez de l’influence d’Amal Alamuddin ? De ses capacités à convaincre George Clooney de se lancer dans la politique ? L’ONU lui fait pourtant confiance pour enquêter sur d’éventuelles violations du droit international humanitaire lors des opérations militaires menées à Gaza par Israël. Une lourde tâche qu’elle partagera avec Doudou Diène (ancien rapporteur spécial de l’ONU) et William Schabes (un universitaire enseignant le droit international à Londres).

Si George Clooney n’a pas pris position sur le conflit israëlo-palestinien (et restera certainement discret maintenant que sa fiancée a hérité du dossier), d’autres stars ne s’en sont pas privé. Rihanna s’est excusée après un tweet pro-palestinien, Javier Bardem et Penélope Cruz ont été accusés d’antisémitisme suite à leurs déclarations, et en France c’est Eric Cantona qui a été jusqu’à interpeller directement François Hollande sur le sujet.

Alors que le mariage entre George Clooney et Amal Alamuddin approche – les fiancés ont déjà publié les bans – la juriste se voit confier une mission qui devrait la détourner quelque temps de l’organisation de la cérémonie. Aucun report n’est à prévoir toutefois : pour offrir une journée inoubliable à celle qui à su le conquérir, George Clooney s’occupe lui-même de tous les préparatifs.

Il n’y a pas pire furie qu’une femme trahie. Pour Antonio Banderas, à qui l’actrice demande le divorce, à chaque jour son lot de petites misères…Par Maryvonne Ollivry

On peut arguer qu’en été, à Los Angeles, les vêtements à manches sont intolérables, mais ce serait prêter à la météo du littoral pacifique des humeurs de désert californien. On peut plus vraisemblablement avancer que la dame savait ce qu’elle faisait en s’exhibant ainsi, bras nus, à la sortie du tribunal, où une flopée de paparazzis, aussi informés que patients, la guettaient. Ce n’est pas à Melanie Griffith, cinquante-sept ans, qui a été prise en photo avant de pousser son premier cri dans le ventre de sa célèbre maman, Tippi Hedren, l’actrice des Oiseaux d’Hitchcock, et qui a tourné son premier film publicitaire à neuf mois, qu’on apprendra la gestion de son image.

Avec un art consommé de la communication, elle est donc sortie ce 28 juillet du tribunal avec sa fille Stella dans le cadre de ses procédures de divorce d’avec Antonio Banderas, le haut du bras droit ostensiblement recouvert d’un scotch blanc si peu discret qu’on a tous pointé le nez dessus et vu le gros « Mel » arrogant tracé au stylo feutre. A bon envoyeur, salut !

Le tatouage « Antonio », exhibé durant dix-huit ans avec fierté, est en passe de disparition définitive. Opération laser. Plus question de fond de teint, comme elle en avait étalé il y a quelques semaines pour masquer le prénom du bel Hidalgo, on est cette fois dans l’acte médical. Plus d’une dizaine de séances sont prévues. D’on ne sait où (enfin, si, on a notre petite idée), le bruit court que l’ex de Melanie, Don Johnson, lui aurait récemment proposé d’abriter ses irritations, physiques et morales. De quoi laisser songeur, en tout cas, quand on sait que Banderas et Griffith avaient pris soin d’annoncer au printemps dernier que leur divorce allait s’effectuer « de façon amicale et affectueuse, dans le respect mutuel »… C’était gentil tout plein. C’était surtout bien mal connaître l’actrice.

Melanie et son peu de sérénité émotionnelle. Melanie régulièrement traversée par des phases alcool, médicaments et autres addictions. Melanie et ses jalousies maladives. Il faut dire qu’avec son Banderas, rencontré sur le tournage de Two Much, en 1995, elle a sans doute eu à faire à forte partie. Aussi caliente que le soleil andalou, le bel Antonio. Il avait déjà quitté sa première épouse, Ana Leza, pour convoler dès 1996 avec Melanie, de trois ans son aînée, trois fois divorcée (dont deux fois d’avec Don Johnson, le père de sa fille Dakota, et une fois seulement d’avec l’acteur d’origine cubaine Steven Bauer, père de son fils Alexander, né en 1985). A l’époque, Mel était déjà connue pour ne pas boire que de la citronnade. Mais il était amoureux et elle était star américaine, qui plus est fille d’un mythe. Leur petite Stella est née cette même année 1996, les reportages d’amour-toujours avec protestations de fidélité se sont succédé, d’autant plus que notre Espagnol se disait fervent catholique. Seulement, on ne se refait pas.

Il y eut d’abord des rumeurs de batifolage. Suivies de moments de désespoir pour Melanie, parfois soignée en clinique. Son alliance partait et revenait à son annulaire gauche. Et puis, on a vu Antonio flirtant ouvertement, en 2012, pendant le festival de Cannes, avec la volcanique actrice indienne, Mallika Sherawat, mais aussi la jolie trentenaire, businesswoman kazakhe, Goga Ashkenazi… Plus récemment, plus dangereux peut-être, Melanie a peu apprécié que Sharon Stonetourne autour de son époux. Une Sharon conquérante comme jamais qui vient de déclarer qu’après avoir mis sa vie privée entre parenthèses pour ne pas perturber l’enfance de ses trois garçons, elle se sent désormais libre d’aimer.

Antonio et Sharon ont beau protester de leur vieille amitié, d’aucuns arguent que l’étincelle serait bien là, mais discrète, par respect pour Melanie… Par respect ? Ou par peur des retombées judiciaires ? C’est que Melanie a choisi la redoutable Laura Wasser comme avocate, réputée pour plumer toutes ses adversaires. La « façon amicale » prend soudain un peu de plomb dans l’aile, vu qu’il y a tout de même un patrimoine immobilier, californien et espagnol, de près de 40 millions d’euros à se partager.

Il y a plus grave. La garde de leur fille ? Faux problème. Bien que couvée par sa « mère courage » devant qui veut les photographier, l’adolescente aura dix-huit ans le 24 septembre prochain (âge de la majorité civile en Californie). Mais quid de la garde de leurs trois chiens, un berger allemand et deux labradors ? Melanie est convaincue d’être la seule à pouvoir bien s’en occuper. Antonio les aime aussi. Affreux, affreux, affreux. En fait de clause léonine, leur divorce va aboutir à une clause canine bien mordante. Comme il arrive parfois chez les cabots hollywoodiens.

Chez Christian Bale et sa femme Sandra, la famille s’agrandit avec l’arrivée d’un petit garçon. Le quadragénaire a la réputation d’être un véritable “papa poule”.

Sandra Balas, ou “Sibi” pour les intimes, arborait déjà en mars dernier un petit ventre rond aux côtés de son acteur de mari, Christian Bale. Le couple, marié depuis quatorze ans, est aux anges avec l’arrivée de son deuxième enfant il y a quelques jours. Leur fille aînée, Emmeline, désormais âgée de neuf ans, pourra jouer le rôle de grande soeur protectrice auprès de son frère. Aucun détail supplémentaire n’a été divulgué sur l’arrivée de cet heureux évènement.

Le jeune papa est également à la tête d’une armée dans le prochain péplum de Ridley Scott, Exodus: Gods and Kings. À quarante ans, il troque donc sa cape de Batman pour celle de Moïse. Il n’est pas question de pouponner pour Christian Bale dans cette fresque historique, mais plutôt d’adversité avec Ramsès sur fond d’épisodes catastrophiques dignes des sept plaies de l’Egypte ancienne. L’arrivée de ce petit garçon est donc une jolie parenthèse pour l’escroc d’American Bluff.

Côté casting, Christian Bale est pressenti pour incarner Steve Jobs dans un biopic mené par David Fincher. Fera-t-il mieux que le précédent film sur l’incroyable patron d’Apple, qui n’avait réalisé “que” 35 millions de dollars de recettes mondiales? Pas de quoi affoler Christian Bale, dont la fortune personnelle le place dans le top 10 (Forbes) des acteurs les mieux payés en 2014 avec… 35 millions de dollars de revenus, à lui tout seul.
