I Know Where It’s At.

Man City ‘willing to pay’ £86m to hijack Man Utd move for Fernandes

Manchester City are plotting a huge bid for Manchester United transfer target Bruno Fernandes, according to reports in Portugal.

Fernandes has managed to contribute 13 goals and ten assists in 22 matches in all competitions this season for Sporting.

The Portugal international is said to be desperate to move and has reportedly agreed terms with the Old Trafford club.

Reports in Portugal had claimed early last week that United had struck a €70m deal for Fernandes but fresh claims on Friday said that Sporting were demanding way more than the Red Devils wanted to pay.

ESPN even went as far as saying that Man Utd were ‘prepared to walk away from a deal’ over the huge gap between the two club’s valuations of the player.

And now Portuguese outlet Correio da Manha (via Sport Witness) claims that City could make a bid to hijack United’s move for Fernandes.

The report said that City are ‘willing to pay’ €100m (£86m) for Fernandes with the Citizens willing to agree a deal now and then wait for him to join in the summer.

However, that fee seems wildly different to what other Portuguese newspapers are reporting with A Bola, O Jogo and Record all claiming Sporting only want a deal of around €70m, which is still more than what Man Utd want to spend.

Sport Witness adds that Correio da Manha have a ‘bad track record’ on reporting the Fernandes transfer and it could be wide of the mark.

Full 590-word transcript as Carra and Keane argue after Liverpool win

Jamie Carragher and Roy Keane clashed on Sky Sports on Sunday in the aftermath of Liverpool’s 2-0 victory over Manchester United.

Jurgen Klopp’s men dominated the Red Devils as goals from Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah put the match to bed.

Man Utd are sitting fifth in the Premier League table on the same points as sixth-placed Wolves and trailing Chelsea – who occupy fourth position – by five points.

Following the match, Carragher questioned whether other big clubs around Europe would tolerate the results that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was getting at United.

To which Keane launched a defence of his former team-mate, backing him to get it right at Old Trafford eventually.

Enjoy the full 590-word transcript here (via the Daily Express)…

Keane: “We talk about Pep Guardiola, what did he do in his first season at Manchester City, the messiah?”

Carragher: “He finished in the Champions League.”

Keane: “That’s good enough for the best manager in the world?”

Carragher: “It was his first season, then he bought the full-backs.”

Keane: “Even he had to go to City and say, I need four full-backs.”

Carragher: “Who spent the most money in the summer?”

Keane: “I’ll have a guess, Manchester United?”

Carragher: “Yep.”

Keane: “I’ll make the point, the recruitment wasn’t up to it. That can’t be down to Ole, who’s bringing in the players? Your guess is as good as mine.

“Who was bringing in the players when David Moyes was there? Who was bringing in the players when Van Gaal was there?

“I don’t know the structure of the club but that’s not working. Recruitment can always be hit and miss but they’re getting far too many wrong.”

Carragher: “When you’re talking about Man United…”

Keane: “The season hasn’t finished yet. Give them the benefit of the doubt, fourth place is still available and they could win the FA Cup!”

Carragher: “Manchester United are one of the biggest clubs in the world, would Bayern Munich or Real Madrid put up with what’s going on at United now?”

Keane: “We’re all sitting here saying praising Liverpool, but if they’re the answers, what were Liverpool for the last 30 years?

“Who was making the decisions here then? They’ve had some brilliant players, it didn’t happen. They were chopping and changing coaches but now Jurgen Klopp is here.

“It takes a year or two, I came to watch Liverpool are a year or two ago, honestly they were shocking to watch. They were beaten by Wolves in the FA Cup.

“I was thinking Klopp, he’s got a big job on his hands, they’ve got it right with the right recruitment and support.

“To suggest that Liverpool have all the answers and United are amateurs is completely wrong.”

Keane: “What about the previous managers, are you saying they are all bad managers?

Carragher: “Manchester United, do you think they’ve done good jobs? You slaughtered Mourinho when he was in the job.”

Keane: “He needed more time.”

Carragher: “He needed more time? You think he need more time?”

Keane: “Absolutely, that’s the name of the game. To question Ole and says he’s not up to it, for some reason other managers go to other clubs and are given the benefit of the doubt.”

Carragher: “Their CV probably gives them the benefit of the doubt.”

Keane: “Frank Lampard is at Chelsea and I saw them last night…”

Carragher: “He’s been in the job six months.”

Keane: “And I’d say the same thing, give him time. Give Ole time, how long has Ole been in the job?”

Carragher: “What is it, 18 months?”

Keane: “Has it been that long? 18 months? Can we find out how long he’s been in the job?”

“16 months? Give the man a chance. Chelsea last night, decent team, couldn’t get the job done. Lampard has lost eight games, but he has all the answers for Chelsea? He hasn’t but give the man time.

“Ole and all this carry on, give him the time. And previous managers before Ole, are you telling me that they didn’t know what the game was about Jamie?”

Carragher: “Tell me what the problem is!”

Keane: “David Moyes was given a six-year contract, Sir Alex Ferguson on the pitch saying get behind the manager, back him, give him a bit more time, not eight months and I wouldn’t have sacked him on Twitter.”

Carragher: “Okay well how long would you give Ole?”

Keane: “Certainly another year.”

Gossip: Man Utd eye loan striker, Spurs target Leicester forward

FERNANDES TELLS SPORTING HE WANTS MAN UTD MOVE
Ed Woodward and his record at Manchester United came under more public scrutiny yesterday after the defeat to Liverpool – have you read 16 Conclusions? – but the morning after the morning after is usually the time for the inevitable transfer tittle-tattle to distract everyone from the shambles in the Old Trafford boardroom. So tune in tomorrow.

Today, all we can offer is the latest update on Bruno Fernandes: there is no update. United are still not coming up with the money required to sign the Sporting Lisbon midfielder.

Click Here: Cheap Golf Golf Clubs

But Sky Sports says Fernandes has told Sporting that he is ‘desperate’ to make the move and ‘there is a willingness’ on all sides to get a deal done. United may be a little more amenable if talks restart today, as they are expected.

UNITED EYE TEMPORARY SOLUTION TO STRIKER PROBLEM
Erling Haaland’s debut hat-trick came at the wrong time for United. The striker who was said to be United’s top target this month bagged three in 23 minutes on Saturday, just while the Red Devils were looking at the X-rays of Marcus Rashford’s back, wondering ‘what the hell are we going to do now?’

The answer to which appears to involve loan signings. United were already looking for loan midfielders, now multiple reports claim they are eyeing a striker on a temporary basis too. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said as much yesterday.

So that will be two players in United’s XI who can’t get into the first XI at what they consider their European rivals.

CAVANI WANTS IMMEDIATE PSG EXIT
United could go and buy Edinson Cavani.

The striker has told PSG he doesn’t want to wait for the expiry of his contract in the summer and he wants to leave this month.

Atletico Madrid have had an £8.5million offer rejected by the Parisians, who were said to be looking for three times that figure.

Here comes Woodward to offer £5million…

SPURS EYE LEICESTER STRIKER
Spurs are also desperately searching for a striker and the Telegraph reckons Jose Mourinho is going on a fox hunt…

Talks with AC Milan over Krzysztof Piatek have gone nowhere so Spurs are looking towards Monaco at Leicester striker Islam Slimani.

The Algeria striker has scored eight in 11 starts while on loan in Ligue 1 and Mourinho is said to be looking at the possibility of making Leicester an offer they can’t refuse to recall the 31-year-old before packing him off to White Hart Lane.

Aston Villa have already registered an interest in Slimani but Brendan Rodgers said last week that a deal with the Villans might be ‘too complicated’.

AND THE REST
PSG left-back Layvin Kurzawa will join Arsenal on a five-year deal in the summer… The Gunners will move for Jerome Boateng on loan before spending big on RB Leipzig centre-back Dayot Upamecano in the summer… Inter Milan want Christian Eriksen signed in time for their match against Cagliari next weekend… Inter are still hoping to sign Victor Moses, Olivier Giroud and Luka Modric… Leicester and Villa are eyeing Amiens striker Serhou Guirassy… Inter have rejected Man City and Barcelona’s bids for Inter centre-back Alessandro Bastoni… Liverpool are considering an offer for Nice’s teenage midfielder Pedro Brazao… Lyon are rivalling Arsenal for Athletico Paranaense defensive midfielder Bruno Guimaraes.

Klopp hails ‘85%’ dominant ‘crazy boys’, admits Liverpool ‘mistakes’

Jurgen Klopp claims Liverpool should have been “more clear” of Manchester United before Mo Salah wrapped up a 2-0 win at Anfield.

Liverpool scored with their first real attempt of the game, as Virgil van Dijk went unchallenged to power in a header from a corner.

The Reds had two other goals chalked off in a first half they dominated.

And the pattern of play was similar in the second period as United’s goal was under siege.

The visitors grew into the game slowly and could have equalised as Anthony Martial blazed over after some fine build-up play from the Red Devils.

But Mo Salah sealed the win for Liverpool in the last minute as Alisson found the striker brilliantly, allowing the Egyptian to run through and slide the ball under David de Gea.

Klopp told Sky Sports: “It’s a big relief, I was really happy with 85-90% of the game, we were brilliant. We dominated the game, especially in the first half. The energy they put on the pitch was incredible.

“On a normal day we would have scored three times in the first half and in the second half until 65 minutes we should have been more clear.

“But then United have obvious quality, played a bit more football and we had to defend. There we little mistakes here and there, we didn’t use possession well enough and so the game stays open.

“Then we scored a wonderful, wonderful goal at the end, a really good feeling.”

Klopp was asked if he was surprised by the level of performance his players maintain.

He added: “To be honest, not really. We had exceptional sessions against the kids – 11 v 11. The boys go like crazy. I don’t take it for granted but I see them during the week so I’m not surprised.”

Sheffield United vs Manchester City Betting Tips: Latest odds, team news, preview and predictions

Guardiola’s men were forced to wait for a breakthrough in the last match against the Blades and Al Hain-Cole expects more of the same at Bramall Lane

Manchester City will be determined to return to winning ways when they travel to Bramall Lane to take on Sheffield United on Tuesday.

Pep Guardiola’s men were held to a 2-2 draw at home to Crystal Palace at the weekend, with Fernandinho’s late own goal bringing his side’s run of five consecutive victories to an end.

Sheffield United vs Manchester City Latest Odds

Unbeaten in seven Premier League matches against this opposition, they are 1/3 (1.33) favourites with bet365 to collect maximum points here.

However, the Blades ran out 2-1 winners when the sides last met here in 2008’s FA Cup clash, and can be backed at 8/1 (9.00) to come out on top once again in completely different circumstances.

Just one of the guests’ last 26 away league games has resulted in a draw, but you can get odds of 4/1 (5.00) on them being forced to settle for a single point in this one.

Sheffield United vs Manchester City Team News

David McGoldrick will face a late fitness test for the Blades, having missed Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Arsenal due to a foot injury.

Long-term casualties Aymeric Laporte and Leroy Sane remain the only injury absentees for the visitors.

Sheffield United vs Manchester City Preview

The Citizens were forced to work hard for their three points in the reverse encounter at the Etihad Stadium just after Christmas, eventually running out 2-0 winners after going in level at the break.

It is likely to be similar story at Bramall Lane, where Chris Wilder’s team has only conceded four first-half goals in 14 fixtures so far this campaign.

However, Sheffield United have also struggled for a breakthrough at the other end of the pitch, having scored before the break in only two of their last nine matches.

Sheffield United vs Manchester City Tips and Predictions

All in all, even money (2.00) seems like good value on the majority of the goalmouth action taking place in the second period for Manchester City’s fifth Premier League game in six.

Man Utd's lack of quality to blame for Rashford injury – Ince

A former Old Trafford favourite believes that the Red Devils are over reliant on the England international, who is now struggling with a back injury

Marcus Rashford is putting extra “strain on his body” while trying to shoulder the main goalscoring burden for Manchester United, according to Paul Ince.

Rashford is currently enjoying his best season yet in a United shirt, adding a clinical edge to his game which had previously been lacking.

The 22-year-old has scored 19 goals in 31 appearances across all competitions, including 14 in the Premier League, which accounts for almost half of United’s overall tally.

The England international has emerged as the most important player in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad, but that extra responsibility is beginning to take its toll.

Rashford was forced off the pitch with a back issue shortly after coming on as a substitute in a 1-0 FA Cup third-round replay against Wolves in midweek, and is now a major doubt for Sunday’s huge showdown with Liverpool.

Ince thinks United’s overall lack of quality is to blame for Rashford’s injury, with it his belief that Liverpool and Manchester City still boast far stronger squads.

“Rashford is one of the very few players I would call a proper United player in that team,” the ex-United midfielder told The Sun .

“He understands the history and what level you need to be a top player.

“He is at that level and goes the extra 100 yards – and he puts a strain on his body by doing that.

“Maybe that’s the reason he gets injured. Liverpool and City can go two goals or three goals up and bring off their top players – United cannot do that.

“The club relies on Rashford because they cannot score goals without him.

“Is he the victim of his own success? You could say that, but this is where they are currently.”

Ince did, however, raise doubts over Rashford’s durability, insisting that a player at his age “should be able to play every game”.

“When you are at that age however, you should be able to play every game,” Ince added.

“We are not talking about me when I was at Wolves at 34 or 35 and having to sit out of training sessions because I was that old.

“When you are young and playing well you want to play every game and should be capable.”

After United’s trip to Anfield, Solskjaer will start preparing his players for another crucial Premier League clash, with Burnley set to arrive at Old Trafford on Wednesday.
