Carrie Underwood Tearfully Honors Las Vegas Victims with Somber CMAs In Memoriam

Carrie Underwood delivered a heartbreaking in memoriam performance Wednesday at the 51st Country Music Association Awards.

The singer, 34, took the stage at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena to sing a somber rendition of the traditional hymn “Softly and Tenderly,” paying tribute to family members the country music community lost in 2017, including Troy Gentry, Glen Campbell and Don Williams.

Then, toward the end of the performance, the faces of the 58 victims who were killed in the mass shooting at the Las Vegas Route 91 Harvest Festival flashed across the screen in the venue as a tearful Underwood wrapped the song.

In addition to performing, Underwood was nominated for female vocalist of the years and, for the tenth year, cohosted the show with Brad Paisley. Underwood and Paisley, 45, honored the Las Vegas victims earlier in the show.

“This has been a year marked by tragedy, impacting countless lives, including so many in our country music family. So tonight, we’re going to do what families do: come together, pray together, cry together, and sing together, too,” Underwood said during their monologue.

Paisley added: “The way we see it, the best way to honor our fans is to play our music — loud and proud. Our music lifts people up and that’s what we’re here to do tonight. So this year’s show is dedicated to all of those we’ve lost and to all of those who are still healing. We love you and we will never forget you.”

The 51st CMAs broadcast live from Nashville Wednesday on ABC.

Kris Jenner Went Shopping at the 99-Cent Store While Ellen Secretly Told Her What to Do

Kris Jenner and her family just signed a reported $150 million deal with E! to continue their hit show, Keeping Up with the Kardashians, but the momager still shops at the 99-cent store—at least when Ellen DeGeneres asks her to. The reality star stopped by Ellen on Friday and dutifully agreed to go on a shopping trip with the talk show host in her ear for Ellen’s Show Me More Show.

“Hi, I’m Kris Jenner. I’m a big celebrity,” DeGeneres instructed her to tell the cashier upon arriving in the store. The millionaire proceeded to question the exact prices of the items in her cart, asking why a coconut priced at 99 cents rings up as one dollar. The answer? It rounds up.

“Oh, that’s how they get you. That’s how they get you,” she joked, letting the cashier in on a little secret: “Mommy’s broke. But you know what? Too blessed to be stressed.”

Drake Has an Hermès Birkin Bag Collection Waiting for His Future Wife

Drake just spoiled a huge surprise for his future wife.

In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the rapper revealed that he has been collecting Hermès Birkin bags for years and that his pricey collection will be a gift for “the woman I end up with.”

While he didn’t get into details about which Birkins he has amassed, Drake seems to have a thing for collecting coveted items that are a bit unexpected, particularly when it comes to a specific set of Harry Potter books. The lyricist revealed he’s not only a Birkin lover, but a Potterhead as well, as he admitted that he’s been on the hunt for a first edition of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.

“Yeah, I read them all,” he said of J.K. Rowling’s series, the first edition of which has finally hit the market for $160,000, the mag reported. “I should get it,” Drake said. “My birthday’s coming up. Maybe I’ll buy it for myself as a treat.”

Drake’s collection of Birkins and his love for Harry Potter may not seem like the norm for a successful rapper, but he has no problem shutting down ideologies about who people think he is supposed to be or how he should act. It’s something that the Degrassi: The Next Generation alum lives by, and wants to convey when he returns to the small or big screen.

“When I get back into acting, I want to do things that make people go, ‘Wow, I didn’t expect that.’ Like, it’s nice to hear you say, ‘You know, I didn’t expect you to like those things,'” he says, referring to his Harry Potter obsession.

Still, not everyone is thrilled with Drake’s reveal of his Birkin bag collection. Author Roxane Gay, for example, sounded off on Twitter about it Wednesday, writing, “I’ve had it with Drake. This isn’t romantic. It’s weird and bad. What if his future wife dgaf about Birkins? He has literally created a thirst dowry. Come on. A thirst dowry.”

Meanwhile, others are simply hoping he’ll pick them.

Heidi Klum Wins Halloween in Werewolf Costume from Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” Music Video

Seven hours of makeup, a series of videos detailing her transformation, and a whole lot of built-up anticipation later, Heidi Klum finally revealed her most epic Halloween costume to date.

On Tuesday evening, the supermodel showed up to her own holiday party in N.Y.C. as one of the werewolves from Michael Jackson’s iconic “Thriller” music video, along with a few zombies, looking completely unrecognizable. She nailed the song’s visuals with an open-faced letterman’s jacket, jeans, and loafers paired with white socks. But, of course, her makeup was the real feat.

While the queen of Halloween is no stranger to prosthetics (remember her “old lady” getup from 2013, or her memorable Jessica Rabbit costume?), she totally outdid herself this year. Working with makeup studio ProRenFX, Klum completed her costume with a set of whiskers, fangs, wrinkled leather-like skin, and an unruly mane. Amber contact lenses and sharp claws only added more freight to the hair-raising look.

“Michael Jackson was always such an icon and the ‘Thriller’ video is such an iconic video and I was like, ‘I have to redo that,’” Klum told People about her costume choice, before admitting she doesn’t have moves like pop star. “Obviously it’s difficult because I can’t dance like Michael Jackson. I don’t think anyone can dance like Michael Jackson, but I tried my hardest.”

The special effects (and the king of pop) may seem impossible to beat, but, if anyone can do it, it’s Heidi!

What Meghan Markle’s Engagement Means for Suits and Her Acting Career

While it’s a joyous day for the royal family, as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are officially engaged, it’s also a bit of a sad day for Suits fans who were hoping to see Markle on screen again soon.

After seven seasons on the show, Markle will step back from acting in order to focus more on her royal duties.

“I don’t see it as giving anything up. I just see it as a change,” she said in an interview with the BBC. “It’s a new chapter, right? And also, keep in mind, I’ve been working on [Suits] for seven years. We were very, very fortunate to have that sort of longevity on a series … I’ve ticked this box, and I feel very proud of the work I’ve done there, and now it’s time to work with [Harry] as a team.”

Rumors have been swirling for a while now about Markle’s departure specifically, since her relationship with Prince Harry has been heating up for some time, but fans are still surely miss her.

Markle has been a regular on the show since its premiere in 2011, so Suits viewers will certainly feel the loss.

Before the news broke, Deadline reported that USA Network is still eyeing a renewal for the series, and though a Season 8 is not confirmed, it is reportedly “likely.”

While this news is unquestionably disappointing for longtime fans of the show, with a royal wedding on the horizon, there is still plenty Meghan Markle news to get excited about.

Japanese former city assemblyman handed life term for drug smuggling in China

GUANGZHOU, CHINA – A 76-year-old former Japanese municipal assemblyman was sentenced Friday to life in prison by a court in the southern Chinese city of Guangzhou for smuggling drugs, his attorney said.

Takuma Sakuragi, a former assemblyman from Inazawa, Aichi Prefecture, was detained by Chinese authorities in October 2013 when he was found to be carrying about 3.3 kilograms (just over 7 pounds) of illegal stimulants in his suitcase.

Disheartened by the Guangzhou Intermediate Court’s ruling, Sakuragi intends to appeal it to a higher court within 10 days, his attorney said, adding that his client is determined to “fight to the end.”

Sakuragi was taken into custody during a baggage check at Guangzhou’s Baiyun airport on his way back to Japan via Shanghai.

Prosecutors had called for either the death penalty or imprisonment for between 15 years and life as far back as August 2014. The court, however, repeatedly extended the deadline for handing down a ruling against him, citing the case’s complexity.

In his trial, Sakuragi pleaded not guilty to transporting drugs, contending that he had been asked to bring the suitcase to Japan by a Nigerian acquaintance but had been unaware it contained stimulants.

After the trial, Sakuragi was quoted by his attorney as saying that he “cannot accept” the ruling.

Sakuragi’s physical condition deteriorated due to his long-term detention, but he said last week, “I have been working hard for six years (after being arrested) and I am looking forward to the final result,” according to the attorney.

One of Sakuragi’s sons, who is visiting China from Japan to observe the court proceedings, kept a stern look on his face during the trial and seemed disappointed to hear the ruling, the attorney added.

Sakuragi’s attorney said a defendant convicted of being a courier of at least 1 kilogram of drugs is usually sentenced to death. But the court had not been expected to impose that penalty on Sakuragi because Chinese law exempts people over the age of 75.

On Friday, court staff and security guards kept close watch on dozens of Japanese reporters gathered outside the courthouse, creating a tense atmosphere.

‘Smart’ Aubameyang has made himself ‘immune to criticism’ at Arsenal

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has made himself ‘immune to criticism’ by supporting an Arsenal fan YouTube channel, according to reports.

The Gabon international has recently been given the captain’s armband at the Emirates Stadium after Unai Emery made the decision to strip Granit Xhaka of the captaincy.

The Arsenal midfielder has now been absent for the last four matches after telling supporters to “f*** off” as he was jeered as he was substituted during a draw against Crystal Palace last month.

Some inside the north London club are ‘questioning his [Aubameyang] suitability for the role’ after Emery ‘turned to the next member of his leadership group’.

And David Ornstein in The Athletic claims that Aubameyang has ‘irritated some people’ over his relationship with an unofficial Gunners YouTube channel.

AFTV, which used to be called ArsenalFanTV, is often criticised for amplifying negativity surrounding disappointing performances and singling out players for poor displays.

Aubameyang ‘left team-mates and staff unimpressed’ in June when he ‘liked’ an AFTV post criticising Emery.

Sources told The Athletic that Aubameyang has been ‘so smart’ by ‘promoting’ their content and making himself ‘immune to criticism’.

Arsenal have also reportedly ordered the 30-year-old to ‘stop engaging’ with ‘Troopz’, one of the main faces on AFTV, and to stop inviting him to sit in the executive box for some matches.

Keane, Mourinho both make same huge title race prediction

Roy Keane and Jose Mourinho have both predicted that the Premier League title race is now over after Liverpool beat Manchester City 3-1 on Sunday.

The victory at Anfield put Jurgen Klopp’s side nine points clear of the defending champions, in fourth, and eight ahead of Leicester and Chelsea.

Liverpool have taken 34 points from a possible 36 since the start of the season and the only other two clubs to have been in a similar position – Manchester United in 1993 and City in 2017 – both went on to win the title.

“They’re [Liverpool] in great form. I’m not a betting man, but I think it’s done,” said Keane.

“It’s not supposed to be easy. If it was easy everyone would win league titles. But it’s not, it’s meant to be tough and demanding, and that’s why when you get there it’s absolutely fantastic.

“If you’re in the Liverpool dressing room you’ll be thinking bring it on.

“We’re talking about them ripping teams to shreds.

“They’ve been doing it for the last two/three years. The way they’re playing is fantastic.

“And on top of everything they’ve got, they look like a fit team. Energy on top of quality gives you a great chance.”

And Mourinho agreed with Keane, he added: “From my position I think it’s done.

“Unless something dramatic happens in terms of an injury that breaks the team, but I think the team is a complete puzzle. It’s adapted to the quality of the players.

“What they did tactically to leave Mane and Salah in those positions, the work that Firmino does for them, the puzzle is really, really good.

“City are capable of winning seven, eight, nine matches in a row, but I don’t see how Liverpool can lose their advantage over them.”

Guardiola: ‘Thank you so much’ to ref was not sarcastic

Pep Guardiola insisted he was not being sarcastic when he shook the hand of the referee after Manchester City’s 3-1 defeat at Liverpool.

The City boss appeared to thank Michael Oliver for his performance in a theatrical way after the final whistle at Anfield.

Guardiola had been enraged during the Premier League clash as his side were twice denied penalties for possible handballs against Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The first was the most controversial, coming immediately before Fabinho opened the scoring. The second came late on as City rallied in response to further goals from Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane.

“It was not sarcastic,” Guardiola said. “I say, ‘Thank you so much’ all the time. I said the same at Tottenham game at home. All the time I go to referees I say thank you so much.”

City’s late rally did produce a reply from Bernardo Silva but Premier League leaders Liverpool did not surrender an advantage that saw them move nine points clear of the champions.

The result left City in fourth place, also behind Leicester and Chelsea, but Guardiola – becalmed by the time he held his post-match press conference – spoke of his pride at the performance.

The Spaniard said: “Today we showed in the most difficult stadium in the world the reasons we are champions, (it was) one of the proudest performances of my career.

“Unfortunately we lost, but congratulations to Jurgen (Klopp) and this fantastic team for the victory. It was a good game for both sides, for the Premier League, for the billions of people who watched this game it was good advertising.

“Maybe you have to buy Jurgen and myself a bottle of wine for that!

“We tried, but we can’t expect not to concede chances at Anfield.

“We created more than ever and I’m so proud to be manager of these players.”

Guardiola refused to be drawn when asked about the controversial refereeing decisions.

He said: “You’ll have to ask (referees chief) Mike Riley and the big bosses about that. I’m not here to talk about the decisions over the referees or VAR. Don’t ask me, ask them.”
