VIDEO: 8 Times Lorelai and Rory Gilmore Defined Mother-Daughter Goals

RELATED: Our 5 Favorite Gilmore Girls Episodes Ever

Scroll down below to see all 20 of the amazing GIFs and watch your favorite ones over and over again. If you need us, we’ll just be staring at Rory (Alexis Bledel) and Jess’s (Milo Ventimiglia) first kiss on repeat for the rest of the day.

1. Rory and Dean’s (Jared Padalecki) first kiss is so beyond awkward and yet we can’t look away at this adorable budding romance—Dean was still amazing this season!

2. In classic Emily Gilmore (Kelly Bishop) fashion, she demands to “go first” after Richard’s (Edward Herrmann, R.I.P.) scary visit to the hospital.

3. Rory is finally ready to wallow after her and Dean’s breakup. Poor Dean just loves Rory, and she can’t get herself to say it back, so they break up for a few episodes, only to get back together when she can finally muster up the courage to say those three little words.

4. In the season one finale, Max (Scott Cohen) proposes to Lorelai (Lauren Graham) with 1,000 yellow daisies. She accepts and then later dumps him the day before the wedding. Cruel.

5. Rory may have missed her mother’s graduation from business school, but Richard and Emily tearing up in the audience as Lorelai accepts her diploma gets us every time.

6. Paris’s (Liza Weil) breakdown in front of her entire school, not to mention everyone who tuned into C-SPAN for the Chilton Bicentennial, is a scene for the ages. “I had SEX, but I didn’t get into Harvard,” she yells to the crowd while looking very disheveled in her pajamas.

7. Rory’s graduation speech definitely made us tear up—okay, fine, sob in fetal position on our couch. Just look how cute she is in that cap and gown, and the valedictorian sash! Go Rory!

8. When Jess showed up at Rory’s dorm at the end of season four to practically beg her to run away with him, our hearts broke when she said no. But come on, she was never going to say yes, no matter how adorable Jess is (that leather jacket, the floppy hair, be still our hearts).

9. Luke (Scott Patterson) finally plants one on Lorelai after a few dates and showing up to the Dragonfly Inn’s test run with a bouquet of flowers. They’re so meant to be together!

10. After Lorelai pretty much catches Rory and Dean in the act, the mother-daughter duo have their first, big, blowout fight. Instead of dealing with the Dean problem and the tension with her mother, Rory decides to jet off to Europe with her grandmother.

11. While we are hardcore Team Jess, this is absolutely one of our favorite Gilmore Girls episodes of all time. “You jump, I jump, Jack,” and just like that Rory opens herself up to a whole new world and experiences at Yale, and of course Logan (Matt Czuchry) enters the scene as a boyfriend contender, though it would take a couple more episodes for him to officially get there.

12. When (stupid, stupid) Luke breaks up with Lorelai after her parents’ disastrous vow-renewal, who comes to her side to comfort her but her daughter and best friend.

13. The evil Mitchum Huntzberger (Gregg Henry) tells Rory she doesn’t have “it,” or what it takes to make it in journalism, breaking her young heart in the process. Though a Year in the Life may have proven him right, he’ll forever be the bad guy who sent Rory on a downward spiral, causing a major rift between her and Lorelai in the sixth season.

14. Lorelai proposes to Luke and obviously he says yes, he’s “all in,” remember? Although it’s heartbreaking that this is also the episode where Rory moves into the Gilmore pool house, at least we had this happy moment to stave off the tears.

15. Rory and Lorelai’s reunion after a season of feuding was done in such perfect Rory-Lorelai fashion: equal parts mushy and hilarious, starting with an excited phone call, and ending with a huge hug.

16. When Paris gets accepted into every law and medical school she applies to (suck it, Harvard!), she swings from extremely excited (there was lots of screaming) to completely overwhelmed (with lots of yelling), and we thoroughly enjoyed watching that emotional pendulum.

17. Luke and Lorelai finally kiss—again—at the end of the seventh season, basically cementing the idea that the two were going to get back together, even if we didn’t get to see it on screen.

18. Ending the show’s seven-season run with a tribute to the pilot, the opening song in that final shot of the girls sitting in Luke’s Diner was the perfect way to cap off such a perfect show. There were definitely a few tears shed here.

19. Speaking of tears, Rory imagining Richard back in his study in the “Fall” episode of A Year in the Life, really did a number on us. So sentimental and so sweet when she decides her write her book in her late Grandpa’s study.

20. SPOILER ALERT!: Those final four words heard around the world: “Mom.” “Yeah?” “I’m pregnant.”

The Household Gender Gap: Who Does the Mental Labor in Your Home?

Who notices when we’re running out of toilet paper?

It was the beginning of a poem she wrote for her blog, Love That Max, about a role she plays in her household – that of worrier, organizer, rememberer, and attention-payer. The poem was about the work she does involving thinking, a kind of mental labor that, she says, “enables our family to basically exist.”

“I am the person who notices,” she writes.

  • I am the person who notices we are running low on coffee pods…
  • I am the person who notices we are running low on toothpaste/dental floss/mouthwash/anti-cavity rinse in bubble gum flavor.
  • I am the person who notices we are running low on granola bars, brownie bites, dried fruit, kale chips, cheese sticks, Pepperidge Farm Goldfish and other lifesaving snacks.

She is the person who knows not only that coffee is essential, but also that using the wrong toothpaste is the kind of thing that can seriously ruin a child’s morning—not to mention their parents.

Eggs, milk, and ketchup, too, she notes. The juice her son loves, and the brand of peanut butter preferred by each family member. (“I so wish our family had consensus on p.b.,” she sighs.) Not to mention a whole myriad of soaps (body, laundry, dishwasher, etc.), gas for the car, when library books are due, when it’s time for a check-up, and when the towels start to smell.

It starts with the toilet paper running out and it goes on… and on… and on. It’s exhausting to read.

Sociologist Susan Walzer published a research article in 1996, called “Thinking About the Baby,” pointing to this household gender gap. Scholars had already documented that women, even those who worked full time, were doing the majority of what came to be called the “second shift”: the work that greets us when we come home from work.

Walzer was interested in the invisible part of this work, the kind that occupied people’s minds. She interviewed 23 husband-wife couples, finding them through the rather quaint method of reading birth announcements in a local newspaper. All had brought a baby home in the last year.

More of the Mental Work

Walzer found that women do more of the intellectual, mental, and emotional work of childcare and household maintenance. They do more of the learning and information processing (like researching pediatricians).

They do more worrying (like wondering if their child is hitting his developmental milestones). And they do more organizing and delegating (like deciding when the mattress needs to be flipped or what to cook for dinner).

Even when their male partners “helped out” by doing their fair share of chores and errands, it was the women who noticed what needed to be done. She described, in other words, exactly the kind of work that Seidman’s poem captures so well.

Seidman isn’t complaining. Her poem is funny and sweet and clearly driven by a love for her family, husband included. And, to be fair, while women who are married to or cohabiting with men do more domestic work than their partners, husbands spend proportionally more time on paid work. Today the amount of sheer hours that men and women spend in combined paid and unpaid work is pretty close to equal.

But that doesn’t count the thinking.

Husbands may do more housework and childcare than before, but women still delegate:

Honey, I’m going to be out of town for the weekend. Remember that the pediatrician’s number is on the fridge, we’re expecting a package on Saturday and you should intercept it if you can, Susan has a sleepover at Amy’s later that night and I wrote the address in your calendar, Scotty has a piano lesson on Sunday at 10 so don’t let him sleep in, the number for Mikey’s Pizza is programmed into your phone, and the flower bed out back could really use some weeding if you’re up to it.

No wonder wives have the reputations of being nags. Even a person who was perfectly happy to do household work might get tired of being wrangled by a half-frantic taskmaster.

Like much of the feminized work done more often by women than men, thinking, worrying, paying attention, and delegating is work that is largely invisible, gets almost no recognition, and involves no pay or benefits.

‘Superpower’ or No?

Seidman suggested she had a “seeing superpower” that her husband and children did not. But she doesn’t, of course. It’s just that her willingness to do it allows everyone else the freedom not to. If she were gone, you bet her husband would start noticing when the fridge went empty and the diapers disappeared. Thinking isn’t a superpower; it’s work. And it all too often seems only natural that women do the hard work of running a household.

We have come a long way toward giving women the freedom to build a life outside the home, but the last step may be an invisible one, happening mostly in our heads.

It’s about housework, yes, but it extends to having to consider what neckline, hemline, height of heel, and lipstick shade is appropriate for that job interview, afternoon wedding, or somber funeral, instead of relying on an all-purpose suit; it’s about thinking carefully about how to ask for a raise in a way that sounds both assertive and nice; it’s about worrying whether it’s safe at night and how to get home; for some of us, it involves feeling compelled to learn feminist theory so as to understand our own lives and, then, to spend mental energy explaining to others that the revolution is unfinished.

To truly be free, we need to free women’s minds. Of course, someone will always have to remember to buy toilet paper, but if that work were shared, women’s extra burdens would be lifted. Only then will women have as much lightness of mind as men.

And when they do, I expect to be inspired by what they put their minds to.

Watch Jimmy Kimmel’s Epic, Star-Studded Sing-Along

Holiday caroling is one of our favorite things to do once Thanksgiving rolls around. And it turns out that A-listers love a good old sing-along just as much as we do!

The latest episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live! included Tinseltown’s finest in a singing session unlike anything we’ve seen before. Backed by Bono and his (RED) organization, which raises money and awareness about the global AIDS epidemic, host Kimmel and the U2 frontman brought together Julia Roberts, DJ Khaled, Neil Patrick Harris, Kristen Bell, Channing Tatum, and Halsey for a star-studded episode that included an epic chorus moment.

As you might have imagined, hilarity soon ensued and Kimmel put his signature flair on the entire evening. The chorus of the song? “If we don’t help people with AIDS, we’re going to hell,” his imploration to help (RED) in its journey to stop the spread of the fatal disease. The Killer’s Brandon Flowers took to the piano to provide the evening’s accompaniment.

Roberts then asked Harris to put his Broadway dancing skills to good use, by asking, “Say, Neil, is there any way we could get you to do some tap dancing for us?” He obliged and brought Tatum in on the fun—with some expert tap dancing and turns, all on the set’s plush fur carpet, of course.

The show isn’t the only thing the stars are doing to raise funds. They are providing once-in-a-lifetime experiences through auction. Taking in a Broadway show with Harris, grabbing tea with Bono and Roberts, going jet skiing with DJ Khaled and unlocking some major keys, and going backstage to meet Hamilton’s Javier Muñoz are just a few of the one-of-a-kind moments available for bidding.

We’d donate to such a vital cause regardless, but these auctions are definitely making giving back so much sweeter.

Liverpool midfielder Fabinho reacts to new ‘Dyson’ nickname

Liverpool midfielder Fabinho is happy with his new “Dyson” nickname while he also likes going by the name of “Flaco”.

The Brazilian has been in brilliant form this season as he has helped Liverpool to the summit of the Premier League table, playing in 11 of their 12 matches.

Fabinho has been deployed in front of the back four this season with a role of sweeping up any danger before it gets into the final third.

And as well as being called the “skinny one” by defender Virgil van Dijk, Jurgen Klopp recently compared him to a brand of hoover.

“A few people call me this! Between us players I’m more known as Flaco but they’re cool nicknames,” Fabinho told Liverpool’s official website.

“Before the coach used it [Dyson], another player used it – I think [James] Milner might have said it.

“It’s a cool nickname but the other one that the majority of the players use, Flaco, that was started by Virgil and everybody started calling me it.”

The 26-year-old scored his first goal for the club against Manchester City in Liverpool’s crucial 3-1 victory and Fabinho says he wants to continue improving.

“I think when the team does well an individual’s abilities shine as well,” Fabinho added.

“I wanted this season to be different because I had already adapted to the team and the league. I wanted to keep improving as a player and help the team out more. That’s what I’ve been aiming for.

“I’m happy for the praise that I’ve got but I know I still have got the scope to improve and I want to keep improving.

“There’s always scope to improve. I’m still young, I want to improve more, develop more. I’ve got personal objectives as well, so I’ve still got more to offer to the team.”

Team-mate on Xhaka abuse: ‘Sh*t, I tell myself people have gone crazy’

Granit Xhaka’s international team-mate Gelson Fernandes doesn’t “understand” how fans can “boo” their own captain after the Arsenal midfielder fell out with his supporters.

The 27-year-old was stripped of the captaincy last week after telling fans to “f*** off” as he was jeered following his substitution in a 2-2 draw against Crystal Palace – also removing his shirt and cupping his ears.

Xhaka went on to issue an apology of sorts, explaining that ongoing social media abuse aimed at his family also led to his furious reaction, but Emery decided to remove him as skipper and has yet to select the Switzerland international in any of the four matches since the Palace incident.

“The public is very frustrated over there at the moment,” Fernandes told Le Matin (via Sport Witness).

“The team isn’t playing at the level it was 20 years ago. Also, Arsenal haven’t invested as much as other big clubs they are trying to rival. There are expectations, it’s normal. Fans go to the stadium, pay a chunk of our wages…

“But I don’t understand how you can boo your captain that way. I’m sorry for him. Granit is a guy with a good heart, a good teammate who gives a lot. Since he’s been there, they have reached the final of the Europa League. That’s not nothing.

“I can’t imagine what Granit felt like with the insults towards his family. S***, I tell myself people have gone crazy. With all this social media, there are many people out of line.

“I think there’s a whole chunk of education that needs to be looked at again. We, as players, are on the frontline. People don’t quite understand the pressure that a player can have on him, especially in big clubs.”

Fred says his improved form is down to one Man Utd man

Fred has credited Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with his improved form at Manchester United as he can feel his “trust”.

Following United’s 3-1 victory over Brighton at the weekend Solskjaer lauded Fred‘s contribution, insisting he was central to stopping the Seagulls from getting into the contest.

The Brazilian was recruited in a £52million deal from Shakhtar Donetsk and has struggled to adapt to English football – but there is a feeling that he may have turned a corner at United.

Fred told The Athletic: “The trust from the manager is important and I feel I have this.

“I just want to continue doing what I’m doing, playing well and starting the games — but I want to score, too. I came close [against Brighton] and hit the bar but I’ll keep working until this happens.

“I’m very happy, firstly because we won but also because we’re getting some rhythm and we’re doing well in the cups.

“But we needed to do better in the league. We just have to carry on fighting so that we reach the Champions League.

“I’m feeling better than I’ve ever felt since moving to England. All I ever wanted was to play regularly and now that I’m doing that, there’s no doubt my confidence is higher and that helps any player.”

Mourinho: Why Liverpool and City don’t need Klopp and Pep

Jose Mourinho thinks the “structure” in place at Manchester City and Liverpool means that both clubs will be successful even if they lose their managers.

City pipped Champions League winners Liverpool to the Premier League title last season by a point, while Pep Guardiola’s men also lifted the FA Cup and League Cup in 2018/19.

And now Jurgen Klopp‘s side are leading the way in the Premier League with a nine-point gap between themselves and fourth-placed City, while Liverpool are also eight ahead of nearest challengers Leicester City and Chelsea.

When asked by the Daily Telegraph (quotes via the Evening Standard) why Liverpool and City were having so much success recently, Mourinho said: “I think the structure of the clubs.

“When you look at City, for example: the owner, [chief executive] Ferran Soriano, [director of football] Txiki Begiristain, Pep Guardiola, Pep’s staff and then the players. This looks like harmony, empathy, chemistry, quality, sharing the same project, sharing the same ideas.

“Liverpool? I also think that Jurgen [Klopp] is in a good position. He is very stable. I think he has control of his ‘areas’. He is supported by people who think the same way, the structure of the club.

“Ok, Pep: fantastic coach. Jurgen: fantastic coach. I think if tomorrow one of them leaves and another top coach comes – of course he has to be top like they are – the team will still be there [at that level]. I think performance is globality. I think basically it is that.”

Leonardo DiCaprio Takes Nina Agdal for Tacos, Elevates Dreamboat Status

In case you had any qualms, I’m here to reassure you that Leonardo DiCaprio is the ultimate bae. On Monday, the Oscar-winner took his 25-year-old Danish model girlfriend, Nina Agdal (what can we say, he has a type) for fish tacos and sushi in Los Angeles.

Ever the gentleman, Leo spent most of their date “checking his phone,” but hey, at least he didn’t hide in plain sight! We’re going to assume he was awaiting a call from Martin Scorsese or Al Gore, or something.

The pair, both rocking casual Monday-appropriate attire and wearing baseball caps, sat outside Itacho Sushi in West Hollywood for a late lunch, matching scooter helmets sitting atop their table.
