And I want my scalps…” Laetitia Forhan

Patti Cake$ Bande-annonce VO

Laurent Schenck

Kubica at risk of missing race due to chassis change

Robert Kubica might not be able to start this afternoon’s Japanese Grand Prix, after Williams were forced to change his chassis following a heavy accident at the start of qualifying.

The session has been postponed from Saturday due to typhoon Hagibis, meaning it was held on Sunday morning just four hours before the start of the race.

That leaves the team with very little time to rebuild the FW42 for Kubica to start the race from pit lane.

Kubica appeared to be caught out by gusty wind conditions exiting the final corner at Suzuka. He ran wide and went into the tyre wall, triggering a red flag just two minutes into Q1.

  • QUALIFYING: Vettel beats Leclerc as Ferrari lock-out Suzuka front row

The Pole was able to leap out of the cockpit unassisted, but the damage to the car was extensive enough to force the team to switch chassis.

“We have enough parts but it’s a chassis change so huge amount of work,” said a Williams spokesperson. “It will be tight but they are doing everything they can and I’m confident they can do it.”

“It was a high price for a relatively small off,” Kubica told Sky Sports F1 of the incident. “I just opened it up, starting the lap.

“There was probably a few factors that led to this,” he continued. “I put the wheel slightly off the track, missed the space, and that had me on the grass.

“The wall came quite quickly and, as I said, there was a few factors which are contributing.

“I don’t want to go into detail but the whole story started before qualifying,” he added, sounding very unhappy with the circumstances of this morning’s incident.

“I’m okay, but it’s a f***ing joke,” he said over the team radio immediately after the accident.

Assuming that the car is ready in time, Kubica will have to start from pit lane after failing to set a time in qualifying and because of receiving a new chassis and gear box.

Haas driver Kevin Magnussen was also caught out by the conditions at the same spot. He triggered a second red flag in the session after spinning and going tail-first into the tyre barrier.

The damage to the VF-19 is thought to be much less extensive, but he will still need a new gear box. The Dane is expected to start the race, albeit from the back of the grid after failing to complete a timed lap in Q1.

“It’s very gusty today, windy,” he explained. “So I think I got a gust, lost the rear. Pretty s**t.”

Renault are also having a busy time before the race replacing parts of Nico Hulkenberg’s hydraulics system after a loss of pressure caused him to get stuck in gear during the second round of qualifying.

Force India eyes more podiums despite 2017 focus

Force India team principal Vijay Mallya is targeting more podiums despite switching focus to the new regulations in 2017.

Sergio Perez has finished on the podium in two of the last three races, taking third place in both Monaco and Baku. Unable to match the resources of some of the bigger teams, Force India is turning the majority of its attentions to next year’s new regulations but Mallya says there is still potential in the current car to repeat recent results.

“Seeing our team on the podium for the second time in less than a month makes me incredibly proud,” Mallya said. “The result in Baku was achieved completely on merit and everybody in the team deserves credit for helping make these results possible. We are experiencing the best run of form in the team’s history and we are enjoying the moment.

“There has been a lot of talk about the team switching focus to 2017, but this doesn’t mean we won’t be strong for the rest of 2016. There is a lot of performance still to be extracted from our current package and I am confident we can put on a good show in the races to come. Having scored two podiums in three races, we’ve got a taste for success and I would like to see us pick up more silverware before the end of the year.”

And Mallya believes the run of consecutive back-to-back races provides Force India with a good opportunity to continue its momentum, with the Red Bull Ring also set to suit its car.

“The races come thick and fast during July with four races in the space of a month. The next race in Austria is a venue we enjoy and we expect to be competitive once again. It’s a great moment for the team and there is a special atmosphere back at our Silverstone base. We’ve shown that we can give the leading teams a run for their money and that’s a huge motivation for everyone at Force India.”

Brown: McLaren to race with ‘quite impactful’ livery in 2020

McLaren F1 boss Zak Brown says the team’s new principal partner deal with British American Toboacco will lead to its cars racing with a “quite impactful” livery next season.

McLaren will extend its commercial partnership with BAT in 2020, with the multinational tobacco company boosting the branding of its cigarette alternatives by taking over significant areas of the future McLaren’s real estate.

McLaren signs up BAT as principal partner for 2020

Brown was mum on the changes, but McLaren’s creative department has apparently delivered a stunning livery design.

“Our car design, which we will won’t reveal until we unveil our race car in February, it looks quite special,” said Brown on Friday.

“I think you’ll like what the race car looks like with the various categories that BAT use on the race car.

“So, I don’t want to spoil that debut. But I will say it will look quite impactful and be very noticeable on the racetrack.”

Brown didn’t give out many clues, but the American did reassure McLaren’s die-hard fans that ‘papaya’ would feature prominently in the 2020 concept.

“BAT is our biggest partner but we will always stay core to our papaya,” he said. “It is a kind of celebration of the history of McLaren and our colour palette.”

Mourinho moved by Man Utd kid’s ‘amazing story’

Former Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has hailed Max Taylor as an “inspiration” after the teenager’s recovery from cancer.

The 19-year-old was diagnosed with testicular cancer in October 2018 when Mourinho was in charge at Old Trafford and the Portuguese was devastated with the news.

Following surgery and extensive chemotherapy, after the disease had spread to his lungs, Taylor has made it back and was an unused sub in United’s 2-1 Europa League defeat to Astana on Thursday night.

It was the defender’s first appearance in the senior squad and completes a remarkable story.

Taylor has spoken of Mourinho’s support following the initial diagnosis and the Portuguese’s heart is warmed by the outcome.

“It was not me, it was everybody at the club, it was a big shock for us at the time,” Mourinho, now in charge at Tottenham, said.

“Very sweet kid, fantastic young professional and when we had the news, everybody was in shock, but I think the first one to motivate everyone at United was him.

“I think he was the one that motivated all of us.

“Lots of people, including myself, we tried to hide tears when we knew it. He was the one who motivated everyone, he was the one who was feeling strong, he was the one who was ready for this fight so that’s amazing, amazing, amazing news for the club and for all of us connected to him.

“You know he won the biggest match of his career, so everybody is happy.

“It is an amazing story and maybe an inspiration for other young people who will find a similar situation.

“Absolutely beautiful, and the fact that Ole (Gunnar Solskjaer) and the staff at the club, they helped him arrive in this beautiful situation, apart from obviously the medical situation, the support situation they offered him, they deserve to earn that opportunity. It’s amazing.”

Chelsea still in dark over the extent of Abraham’s hip issue

Chelsea are still unsure how long England striker Tammy Abraham will be sidelined with hip trouble.

Abraham sat out training at Chelsea’s Cobham base on Friday and will miss Saturday’s Premier League clash with West Ham at Stamford Bridge.

Lampard expects Chelsea to know by Monday the extent of Abraham’s hip issue, that he suffered in the Blues’ 2-2 Champions League draw at Valencia on Wednesday.

“We’ll know by the end of the weekend, he’s got some pain and won’t be involved tomorrow,” said Lampard.

“But then we’ll know by Monday.”

Abraham landed awkwardly on his hip in Chelsea’s Champions League clash at the Mestalla and was carried off on a stretcher at half-time.

The 22-year-old insisted straight after the match that his injury was not as bad as he had first feared, but the Blues are still assessing their star striker.

Michy Batshuayi replaced Abraham off the bench in Valencia and will battle it out with Olivier Giroud to lead Chelsea’s line against West Ham this weekend.

Abraham has fired 10 goals and laid on two assists in a blistering Premier League start this term, but Lampard insisted he is confident the Blues boast the firepower to cope in his absence.

“The other lads have been training well, every day is a work day so whenever chances come they are ready and I have every confidence in them,” said Lampard.

“Michy has shown work ethic and quality, which I knew anyway. It’s not easy when you’re not playing as many minutes as you’d want.

“All my players want to play every minute of every game. With Tammy’s form that’s meant he’s played a lot of minutes, but that can obviously change now Tammy has his injury.

“I’ve seen a great work ethic and a persistence in how he works, and a consistency in his quality.

“We’ve seen when he has come off the bench at times as well. That has been great to see because we need competition in those places.”

Lampard will face the first game of his managerial career against former club West Ham, but insisted he remains unfazed by the occasion.

“I wouldn’t say it’s bittersweet in any way, it’s just a game for me; a game for us to try to win against a very difficult opponent,” said Lampard.

“It’s a London derby which adds spice to it, which the players have to be aware of. That can change the temperature of the game.

“I’ve played in games like this where teams turn up not in great form and are slightly transformed by the nature of the game. So we have to be very aware of that.

“I’m not concerned about the emotions of it from my point of view.

‘Absolute bad news’ – Fabinho ruled out for Liverpool until 2020

Liverpool midfielder Fabinho will be out for more than a month after suffering ankle ligament damage during this week’s Champions League clash with Napoli.

The Brazilian, who has this season established himself as a first-choice pick for Jurgen Klopp‘s Premier League leaders, was substituted after just 18 minutes of the 1-1 draw at Anfield.

Liverpool have now announced that the 26-year-old will play no part in their congested run of 10 games between now and the end of December.

A club statement read: “Liverpool can confirm Fabinho suffered ankle ligament damage during the Champions League encounter with Napoli in midweek.

“Further assessment on the injury has discovered Fabinho will be out of action until the new year.

“The Brazilian will begin a rehabilitation programme with the Reds’ medical team at Melwood as he works his way back to full fitness.”

Speaking at the pre-match press conference for Saturday’s home game against Brighton, Klopp discussed Fabinho’s absence.

“Absolute bad news,” he said.

“We are not 100 per cent sure how long it will take but looks sure he will not take part in the Christmas fixtures. We have solutions for the position. We are not the only team with injuries. We have to find a solution and that’s what we will do.”

Adam Lallana, Jordan Henderson and Gini Wijnaldum were mentioned as possible stand-ins, with a reshuffle in the centre likely, but Klopp admitted none represented a perfect like-for-like swap.

Klopp added: “Will it be exactly like Fabinho? Of course not. Nobody is like the other one. But it will be a good one.

“It’s an opportunity for somebody else. Hendo (Jordan Henderson) played in that position, Gini (Wijnaldum) played in the position already. Adam Lallana played in the position.

“It’s not that they aren’t as good as him, it’s that they are different, have different qualities. We just have to make it work. That’s always the job.

“Fab couldn’t have played all the games from now until March, that was clear anyway.

“It’s not cool. We think a lot about it, but not in the case now ‘oh my God, how can we deal with it?’.

“It’s just ‘let’s do the right thing for Fab, let’s do the right thing for the team’ and let’s carry on.”

Mourinho ‘slows’ €40m Tottenham deal Poch was backing

The arrival of Jose Mourinho at Tottenham could halt the progress of a permanent deal for Giovani Lo Celso, according to reports.

Lo Celso, a deadline-day signing from Real Betis, has only managed two starts this season after picking up a hip injury while on international duty with Argentina in September.

Including his two starts, Lo Celso has made eight appearances in all competitions but has failed to feature in either of Mourinho’s first two matches as Spurs boss, despite being on the bench.

And Estadio Deportivo (via Sport Witness) claims that having paid Betis €16m to loan Lo Celso for the season, Tottenham have the option to either make it permanent in January for €32m plus bonuses or wait until the summer when they can pay €40m.

The report adds that the arrival of Mourinho ‘slows’ the permanent transfer of Lo Celso to Spurs as the Portuguese coach works out where the attacking midfielder fits into his plans.

Mauricio Pochettino, who was sacked last week, fully backed making the deal permanent in the summer but reports have previously claimed that they only have to make it into a full transfer if they qualify for the Champions League.

Spurs are currently 10th, nine points off fourth-placed Chelsea after a poor return from their opening 13 matches of the Premier League campaign.
