Button could race in Super GT, Rallycross during sabbatical

McLaren-Honda star Jenson Button says he could compete in Rallycross and Super GT during his sabbatical from Formula One action in 2017.

The Briton announced in Monza that he needed a break from F1 and would not race in the sport next year, with Stoffel Vandoorne promoted to a full-time role alongside Fernando Alonso.

However, Button remains contracted at McLaren for another two years. The 2009 world champion will act as an ambassador and reserve driver next season, with the team holding an option for him to return in 2018.

“I want to spend more time with friends, family and to do other things…” Button was quoted as saying by Reuters during a promotional event ahead of this weekend’s Singapore Grand Prix. “I love triathlons and maybe I’ll race in something else like Rallycross or Super GT in Japan,”

“There are so many options and that’s why it’s exciting, because I can sort of live my life the way I want to next year. I have a contract to race with the team in 2018 if the team wants me to race and if I feel that I want to race.”

Super GT is a Japan-based grand touring car series where McLaren’s engine partner Honda is involved, while Button’s late father John was a prominent Rallycross driver in the 1970s and 80s, racing a Volkswagen Beetle to the runner-up spot in the 1976 British Rallycross Championship.

Jared Leto l’a mauvaise…

F1 not Lamborghini’s priority – Domenicali

Click:Hyperbaric Chamber 1.5 ATA

Former Ferrari team principal Stefano Domenicali says Lamborghini will not be entering F1 soon because it “is not the priority” for the Italian manufacturer.

After leaving Ferrari in 2014, Domenicali joined Audi later the same year and was appointed CEO of Lamborghini in March 2016. His experience at Maranello led the Domenicali-affiliated companies to be linked with an F1 entry but the 51-year-old says it is unlikely Lamborghini will be taking such a route.

“I have been asked dozens of times the question: ‘When will we see Lamborghini in F1?’ And I say that is not the priority today because we have other challenges that are a priority level before this,” Domenicali told Autosprint. “And today we have a system that is working really well in racing because, beyond that the product is undoubtedly centred, we have an external business that is certainly extraordinary.

“Credit is due … to all the people working in the motorsport division who have chosen the sports program well. However you can not think of a brand like Lamborghini with no motorsport. This is a given. Let’s talk about cars that you have to give your driving passion. For the emotion that gives you, motorsport is key.

“In this respect I say that we must feel the responsibility to uphold the passion of motorsport. The racing world, in some countries more than others, is living in difficult situations. With our machines, at fair prices compared to the market, we must give a chance to those who want to race to do so.”

‘I always have low expectations’ – Hamilton

The remark by someone fueled by such an immense ambition may come as a surprise, but Lewis Hamilton just applies the ‘low-expectancy’ motto to avoid bitter disappointment.

Hamilton launched his Belgian Grand Prix from the tail end of the grid on Sunday, and put in a solid performance, perhaps a tad helped by circumstance, to race all the way up to the podium.

Despite his ever-present competitive spirit, the Mercedes driver often reins in expectations when confronted with a challenge while always giving it his best.

“Generally, I don’t try to have any expectations,” Hamilton said after his impressive result at Spa.

“So every time we come to a race, people are like: ‘What do you expect?’ and honestly I try not to have expectations because then you are inevitably disappointed.

“We prepared ourselves in a way that we hoped we would get some points, but I was like I might not finish today.

“I was really undermined, but felt whatever happened today, it is what it is, and from the next race I have got the same amount of engines – well more than others now – and I can fight in the last eight races.

“So, to come out with a clean race like I did and only lose ten points and have three new engines, that is a super bonus today.”

Asked whether lowering his prospects was a new mental approach to racing, Hamilton said it wasn’t.

“I don’t think so. I think I have always been like that… as far as I can remember I have always been like that, not expecting too much.

“It is like Christmas day, I never expect anything, and then when you find out you have got some gifts from some nice people, people that love you, it is a surprise.

“If you go into Christmas day expecting stuff then at some stage you are going to be disappointed you got shoe laces instead of a car. So, that’s just how I am.”
