Jurgen Klopp has explained why Sadio Mane appeared to react badly to being substituted in Liverpool’s 3-0 victory over Burnley.

An own goal by Chris Wood, deflecting in Trent Alexander-Arnold’s cross, was added to by Mane and Roberto Firmino as Klopp‘s side regained top spot just over two hours after Manchester City had briefly overtaken them.

On Liverpool‘s performance, Klopp said: “We were brilliant, there were so many 50/50 situations because of the long balls but we played early balls in behind as well. In moments we played really, really good football. Everything was there.

“We were a bit lucky with the first goal but we forced that situation. We controlled the game as much as you can. Wood and Barnes fight so hard for these balls, and we defended it really well. We were aggressive but gave away no fouls, we worked our socks off.

“Burnley play football as well, we had opportunities to score on the counter attack, you have to prepare the trigger. This sort of a game is a real challenge for our concentration. You have to be ready.”

Explaining why Mane seemed unhappy when he was substituted, Klopp added: “Sadio Mane is an emotional guy, we are all individuals. Something went not like he wanted, it is not the substitution. We will clarify it in the dressing room.

“Very early when I came in I told everyone that we want to create our own history and that is what the boys do week in, week out. We had a tricky pre-season so I didn’t expect these first four games.”

Paul Scholes doesn’t think Manchester United will be “where they want to be” for another “three or four transfer windows” after their draw 1-1 at Southampton.

United have an outstanding record at St Mary’s and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men looked on course for a first away win since their jaw-dropping Champions League triumph at Paris St Germain.

But the visitors were unable to build on Daniel James’ beautiful early strike and Jan Vestergaard levelled after the break, with Saints holding on for a draw despite Kevin Danso’s sending-off leaving them under the cosh.

“On that showing today you have to feel there is a good three or four transfer windows before they get to where they want to be,” Scholes told Premier League Productions.

“United are United. I think you almost have to write United off for the next two years, this team. I think until Ole Gunnar has cleared everything he wants out, there’s four or five transfer windows, United are going to be behind Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea and Tottenham.”

Frank Lampard says there should be “no chance” Chelsea don’t win the match after being two goals up against Sheffield United.

The Blades stunned Chelsea by snatching an 89th-minute equaliser at Stamford Bridge with Callum Robinson’s strike and a Kurt Zouma own-goal cancelling out Tammy Abraham’s first-half brace.

And Lampard was surprised his side drew 2-2 after being in control at the break.

“It was under control, it is our fault for gifting them a goal in the first minute of the second half,” Lampard told BBC Sport. “It’s a similar story already.

“The game should have been comfortable and we have dropped two points. We want to win games, the emergence of youth is one thing but winning games is another. When you are 2-0 up at half-time you should win the game.

“We had more than enough on the pitch to win that game from 2-0 up. There is no chance that that game should swing like that. We gave them the possibility to hurt us.

“Tammy Abraham is doing well, his all-round game was great and he needs to continue.”

Cesare Maestri è stato costretto ad interrompere la salita allo Shisha Pangma per il male acuto di montagna

Cesare Maestri ha interrotto il suo tentativo di salire, a 73 anni, il suo primo ottomila, lo Shisha Pangma (8.014 m). La decisione è stata presa a causa del “male di montagna acuto” i cui primi sintomi sono stati accusati da Maestri già sabato scorso, al termine di una lunga e faticosa marcia per raggiungere il campo base avanzato dello Shisha Pangma, a quota 5600 metri.

Un medico di una spedizione spagnola – una delle 12 presenti sulla montagna – ha prestato le prime cure, grazie alle quali Maestri si è ripreso rapidamente. Domenica 22 e lunedì 23 Maestri ha riposato, recuperando forze ed energie, decidendo però di non proseguire dopo aver sentito il parere del dott. Fabrizio Zamperioli, il medico veronese esperto di malattie dell’alta quota, che da circa un anno ha seguito la preparazione atletica e fisica dell’alpinista trentino per questa spedizione.

Il male acuto di montagna, va preso molto sul serio, e l’unico rimedio è purtroppo scendere. Cesare Maestri l’ha subito fatto in compagnia di uno sherpa e di Sergio Martini, con i quali raggiungerà un campo intermedio e poi il campo base cinese ai piedi dello Shisha Pangma. Per il 28 settembre Maestri conta di essere a Kathmandu da dove, con il primo volo disponibile, rientrerà in Italia.

La “bandiera della pace” – che l’alpinista trentino voleva portare in vetta allo Shisha Pangma – è passata così dalle mani di Maestri a quelle di Sergio Martini che, insieme a Fausto De Stefani, altro himalaysta tra i più famosi, e a Giorgio Nicolodi, tenterà di raggiungere la vetta, non appena le condizioni del tempo miglioreranno. Attualmente, infatti, le temperature sulla montagna hanno raggiunto i – 25 °C sotto zero e la neve caduta ha reso molto pericolosa la salita. Anche le altre spedizioni, ed in particolare quella inglese che si era spinta fino al campo 3 a quota 7200, sono tutte rientrate al CBA in attesa di un miglioramento.

Dall’8 al 29/09 a Mantova, nell’ambito del Festival della Letteratura, si può visitare la mostra di fotografie “Tenzing va a scuola – Scuole sull’Himalaya”. Alla mostra si alterneranno incontri e conferenze con personaggi legati alla dimensione del viaggio in terre lontane.

S’inaugura oggi, 8 settembre, a Mantova, nell’ambito del Festival della Letteratura, la mostra fotografica “Tenzing va a scuola – Scuole sull’Himalaya”.

La mostra, con fotografie di Stefano Pensotti, Franco Rivetta e Marco Vasta, viaggiatori, fotografi e scrittori, profondi conoscitori dei paesi fotografati, riguarda aspetti di vita quotidiana nelle scuole di Ladakh, Nepal (regioni di Mustang e Dolpo), Sikkim e Tibet, ma anche cultura, ambiente e popolazioni di quelle regioni Himalayane.

La mostra, allestita nel Palazzo del Plenipotenziario della città scaligera (piazza Sordello), è a cura dell’ONLUS “Aiuto allo Zanskar”, con lo scopo di raccogliere fondi per la costruzione di scuole nell’omonima regione dell’India settentrionale, abitata quasi esclusivamente da popolazioni di origine tibetana.

Alla mostra, che resterà aperta fino al 29 settembre, si alterneranno incontri e conferenze con personaggi legati alla dimensione del viaggio in terre lontane. Tra gli ospiti previsti: Marco Aime (Ricercatore di Antropologia culturale, ha condotto ricerche in Africa Occidentale, tra i Dogon), Giuseppe Cederna (attore, ha pubblicato il racconto di un suo viaggio in India), Marco Berni (scalatore, ciclista e globetrotter, racconterà la sua esperienza all’Iditarod, famosa corsa di slitte in Alaska), Giuseppe Pompili (giornalista ed alpinista).
