Highly-rated youngster misses out as Liverpool name CL squad

Harvey Elliott has been named in Liverpool’s 29-man squad for the Champions League as another youngster misses out.

The Reds won the competition for a sixth time last season when they defeated Tottenham 2-0 in Madrid to bag Jurgen Klopp’s first trophy at Anfield.

Liverpool were named in Group E alongside Napoli, Red Bull Salzburg and Genk and now they have picked the players to help them mount a defence of their crown.

Klopp has chosen to select four goalkeepers with Andy Lonergan making the squad as well as Alisson, Adrian and Caoimhin Kelleher.

Nathaniel Clyne misses out after he suffered a long-term knee injury during the summer and could be out for up to six months.

Summer purchases Elliott and Sepp van den Berg make the cut, while Ki-Jana Hoever – who made his senior debut in the FA Cup last season – is not included.

Here’s the squad in full…

List A:  Alisson Becker, Harvey Elliott, Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah, Joe Gomez, Jordan Henderson, Naby Keita, Adam Lallana, Andy Lonergan, Dejan Lovren, Sadio Mane, Joel Matip, James Milner, Divock Origi, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Andy Robertson, Adrian San Miguel, Xherdan Shaqiri, Fabinho Tavarez, Sepp van den Berg, Virgil van Dijk, Gini Wijnaldum.

List B:  Trent Alexander-Arnold, Rhian Brewster, Curtis Jones, Herbie Kane, Caoimhin Kelleher, Yasser Larouci, Adam Lewis.

Barnes hits out at Sancho over racism comments

John Barnes has advised Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho to “give up football” if he is falling out of love with the game.

The former Liverpool and England winger comments come after Sancho said his “love of the sport will go very soon” if racism in football continued.

A number of footballers, including Paul Pogba, Marcus Rashford and Romelu Lukaku, have recently been the target of vile racist taunts – but Barnes chose to criticise Sancho’s reaction.

“You love football because of the game, not because of some idiot who is going to shout at your from across the street,” Barnes told talkSPORT.

“If Jadon is going to fall out of love with football, let him give up football and let him go into the real world as a young black man without an education and without being able to play football, then he’ll see what it’s really like to be a black person who is racially abused.

“As much as footballers want to talk about how terrible it is for them, look at what’s happening in the black community of kids without an education and who haven’t got jobs.

“If he thinks that’s bad [the abuse of footballers], let him go into the real world and see what real discrimination is about.”

Sancho was reacting to an incident in Inter Milan’s match away at Cagliari where Lukaku was subjected to monkey chants.

“I personally think that it just has to stop,” Sancho said “No player wants to play football and have abuse like that.

“It puts the confidence down in players and the love of the sport will go very soon if it doesn’t stop.

“Everyone should be happy and do what they are doing without receiving racial abuse. I don’t think it is [just] social media.

“Some fans are just really passionate and obviously they say what they want to say. I feel they need to slow it down a bit – we’re still only human.

“Just because we play football people might think we are just famous and ignorant to that but we just love the sport and just want to play.

“It is hard to see things like this because it feels like ‘why should we play football?’. I felt that Romelu Lukaku handled it really well by not reacting and carrying on playing.”

Solskjaer calls Man Utd players a ‘joke’ in dressing-room rant

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reportedly lost his cool in the Manchester United dressing room following their 1-1 draw on the road at Southampton.

United have an outstanding record at St Mary’s and Solskjaer’s men looked on course for a first away win since their jaw-dropping Champions League triumph at Paris St Germain.

But the visitors were unable to build on Daniel James’ beautiful early strike and Jan Vestergaard levelled after the break, with Saints holding on for a draw despite Kevin Danso’s sending-off leaving them under the cosh.

The result over the weekend means they have taken just five points from their opening four matches of the season and find themselves seven points adrift of leaders Liverpool.

And The Sun claims Solskjaer ‘lost it’ following United’s performance at St Mary’s after becoming ‘particularly frustrated’ with their inability to ‘implement what they work on all week in training’.

In the dressing-room ‘rant’ Solskjaer called his players’ display against Southampton a ‘joke’ and told them it was becoming ’embarrassing’ that they ‘were failing to finish teams off’.

With Leicester their next opponents after the international break, Solskjaer warned his players that they will be in ‘serious trouble’ if they don’t start performing.

The Sun adds that Solskjaer accused individuals of lacking effort but he ‘refused to name names in front of the squad’.

Ben Affleck Takes 22-Year-Old Playboy Model to His Go-To L.A. Haunt: Jack In the Box

Though the cat seems to be (mostly) out of the bag, Shauna doesn’t seem to be taking the public speculation too seriously.

The model and Vet Tech posted a photo of herself to Instagram on Sunday, the comments section of which was immediately filled with dozens of ultra-flattering messages, like, “Did heaven send you?”

Sexton, clearly unfazed by the attention regularly heaped upon her (ah, to be a model), left a cheeky message in return, writing, “no just Batman.”

Inside the Subtle Moment the Queen Paid Tribute to Princess Diana After Her Death

When Princess Diana died in a car crash in August 1997, Queen Elizabeth’s slow public response to the tragedy made many question her judgment.

The Queen, then 71, found the monarchy being questioned like no other time since her uncle, King Edward VIII, famously abdicated the throne in 1936.

Should she have said something publicly in Scotland, where she and Diana’s sons Prince William and Prince Harry, just 15 and 12 year old, respectively, were staying for the summer? Should she have come south to London sooner?

When she did arrive in London and walked among mourners, collecting a well-wishers’ flowers and giving her first personal address on the matter on the eve of the funeral, it calmed some of the disquiet.

Then, on the morning of the funeral itself, six days after Diana’s sudden death, the Queen made a gesture many thought changed the public’s opinion. As the funeral cortege passed the palace, the monarch led her family out to the gates.

Photographer Mark Stewart recalls watching the Queen in the “completely unscripted” moment, “walking out of the palace down to the side of the road with the public.”

“I pushed my way through the crowd, which was about 20 deep, and luckily the BBC had left a ladder against a tree. I managed to climb the ladder and I have the only shot of the Queen bowing her head at the coffin as it goes past,” he says in this week’s issue of People. “It showed the Queen . . . The best of the Queen, really.”

This week’s issue of People celebrates how the women in the Windsor family, from Queen Elizabeth to Princess Diana and Kate Middleton to Meghan Markle, have each helped usher new ways forward.

Stewart is one of many sources, who speak in depth about the Queen, her family, the past and future of the royal family in The Story of The Royals, a two-night television event presented by People, airs August 22 and August 23 (9:00-11:00 p.m. EDT) on ABC.

Kim Kardashian Ditched Her Bikini for a Neon Pink Adult Onesie

Kim Kardashian, like retirees and alligators, is living her best life in Florida right now.

The Keeping Up with the Kardashians star is spending time in Miami this week with her posse, which includes daughter North, 5, son Saint, 2, and pals Larsa Pippen and Jonathan Cheban. She kicked off her Thursday afternoon with a family-friendly boat trip (which was interrupted by the paparazzi, of course). But that’s not why this mini vacation caught our attention…

Instead of Kardashian’s typical teeny-tiny designer bikinis, the 37-year-old lounged on board in a neon pink skintight Chanel jumpsuit emblazoned with the brand’s signature double Cs. Is it a swimsuit? It’s unclear — and it provoked a lot of debate at InStyle HQ. Is it fabulous beyond all description, however? YES.

We never thought being likened to a stylish Teletubby would be a good thing, but Kim’s really turned us around on that.

Though we’re solidly on team neon jumpsuit, we have reason to believe Kardashian’s husband, Kanye West, probably isn’t such a fan of the look. During a lengthy interview with Charlamagne Tha God in May, West explicitly shared his thoughts on branding, telling his fellow artist, “I don’t wear branding. When I see branding, I see insecurity. And I see people buying security. Buying it back through a brand. Protection, a badge. Like, don’t mess with me in high school … I got Supreme on.”

Looks like Kanye spoke too soon, because his wife is radiating confidence (and possibly blinding a dolphin or two) in this logo-covered garment.

Meghan Markle’s Mom Crashed Her First Solo Royal Event

For the special occasion, Markle wore a statement-making cobalt blue Smythe coat (nordstrom.com, $1,195), Sarah Flint Jay Pumps ($395; sarahflint.com), and a Misha Nonoo skirt (orchardmile.com, $250). You’ll recall that Nonoo is one of the women in Meghan’s inner circle who was once rumored (though not officially confirmed) to have played a part in setting up our favorite royal couple on their blind date back in 2016. The duchess has worn her designs on numerous occasions in the past, dating back to her pre-royal life.

Thursday’s outing is also the second time in a row that Markle has taken a page out of Kate Middleton’s book by opting for this specific regal color, and we’ve got to say, it’s a welcome change of pace from a summer of blush pink.

Keep the looks coming, Meghan!

Sally Field Describes Sexual Abuse by Stepfather in “Raw” New Memoir: “I Felt Helpless”

In an exclusive interview with People in March 2018, Field shared even more details about In Pieces, out Sept. 18 — including the book’s cover, that it would address her complicated relationship with her mother, growing up in the repressive 1950s and starting her acting career at 17.

“I knew I had a story to tell and I knew I had to tell it. It’s taken me a great deal of time to figure out exactly what it was,” Field said. The book took her seven years to write.

“I have this life that no one really knows… or at least I didn’t even know truly,” she added. “This is incredibly raw and intimate and personal. [The memoir includes] things I never thought I wanted to say out loud.”

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex Have Not Actually Visited Sussex

Hundreds of years ago, when pop-up toasters, bras, and penicillin didn’t yet exist, if you were lucky enough to be named an English duke of a town, that meant you basically inherited all the land that goes with it. Sweet gig, right?

Thankfully for the actual residents of those areas, today things work a little differently. But that hasn’t stopped Queen Elizabeth from bestowing dukedom and duchessdom to members of her family, including Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. The newlyweds became the Duke and Duchess of Sussex once they got married, and while those titles designate nobility and don’t come with ruler perks, they still matter to the royals.

Which makes it all the more surprising that as of right now, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have not yet visited Sussex. Weird, right?

Kensington Palace announced Thursday that Harry and Meghan will have their first-ever visit to their namesake on Oct. 3, a day after Kate Middleton returns from maternity leave. They’ve got a jam-packed schedule for when they visit, but that’s to be expected, since they’re getting to know the place they’re literally named after.

It might seem strange to some that this visit didn’t happen months ago, but compared to Prince William and Kate Middleton, Harry and Meghan are actually speedy. Will and Kate are the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, and after marrying in April 2011, it took them until November 2012 to finally make an official trip.

Her fashion follows a far more casual post-maternity leave debut a week and a half earlier, where she showed off a brand new hairdo and a Meghan Markle-esque jacket.

In case you missed it, Kate’s a pro at wedding guest attire, so to see her nailing it once again is probably the least surprising moment of the entire day.
